No, you don't need it. You can get it if you want to, but it won't hurt anything if you don't have it.

I use plug wire sleeves on my car but as long as you make sure to keep wires away from headers or use something as a barrier you should be fine.

Yeah, I have the other ones. I got the ceramic coated longtubes. Won't rust as fast as the painted ones. I didn't look at the link, I assumed you got the coated ones. I think with the painted ones I would get the heat wrap. But again, you don't NEED it, its just an extra.
As far as the wire clearance, I just routed mine the way I wanted them oriented, then I zip-tied them.

hmmm john, u think i should invest in sum plug covers? i had a older guy i work with tell me that since i got those long tubes i should have gotten the header wrap so i wouldnt burn out the wires. he said thats a big problem with our cars...what u think? nobody i know in my club has them, or at least the cars ive been under...never seen what the covers look like

My car burned a few wires before I bought it and it was cheap enough. Infact it was a very good deal compared to the price of having to buy new wires. Comes in some different colors too. Zip ties work fine in the begining but after time or things moving around in the engine bay and those zip ties being exposed to heat and cracking. All it takes is a zillasecond for them to touch a exhaust tube runner and the wire is shot.
I can't seem to find the part number for the sleeves I got, but they were made by Mr.Gasket and they had them on the shelf at autozone here. Maybe they still carry it.

Yeah, I was looking into those wire wraps, but the ones I found were a bit pricey. I was at autozone and the only ones they had were the boot covers and were ~$80, so I passed.
Formula, did you get full wire insulator covers or just the boot covers?

i have heard header wrap will hold in moisture and make the headers rust faster. so it probably isnt the best idea for a daily driver, but it would be smart to get them coated or cover your wires, 2 of my wires burned to hell the other day. GAY

Full wire covers. You just pull off the boot and slip it on the wire and re-install the boots.
Also Philly, it is sometimes called a few different things, from spark plug wire sleeve, to wire insulator, to wire wrap. I am going to swing by my Autozone tommorow and see if they still have it here.

I may look into those. But like I said, my autozone here only had the boot covers last time and they wanted $80 for them.
I didn't know they made full wire insulators.

I think I paid 22 or 23 dollars for 25 feet of it and it says it protects to 1200 degree's but I think its lower than that but still enough to not burn threw it.
