Any kits have a full-detail Subaru boxer?

Customer has a wild project in real life--a Super 7 that he's considering powering with a Subaru flat-4!! And he suggested I do a model of it, if I can find the engine... so anyone know a kit with one?

1/25 scale Revell diecast body Impreza has plastic engine details.

Or, you can try Studio 27's Impreza engine kit in 1/24 scale.

hmm I suppose that's one option... but Tamiya's Lotus Super 7 is 1/24, and that's 1/25, so it'd look pretty big... plus it seems to be rather low detail.
Did any of the Tamiya, Hasegawa or Fujimi Subaru kits come with an engine?

S27 made that but is far from a whole engine:

BTW all 1/24 scooby kits I know are curbside.

The 1/25 is smaller than 1/24 so it would be the opposite, and benefitial in a 7 :icon16:

AMT's Subaru Brat has full engine detail, downside is it's the N/A 1.5L version

I'd be kinda surprised if the Suby boxer would be a good fit in a Seven. Offhand I have no idea how wide the boxer is cam cover to cam cover, but the Seven isn't terribly.

oh woops... it still might look weird tho :licka:
Thanks freakray, I'll look into it... I assume they look essentially the same externally no?

Paging blubaja.... ;)
The Revell motor parts are basic, but are a fantastic base for the turbo EJ20. With plenty of reference, and you build a stand-out motor. (albeit a 1/25 motor.)
I haven't seen the AMT EJ15 in person, but I know from wandering around junkyards that EJ motors can tend to look very different depending on version by the ancilliary parts that get bolted to the top of the block.

Hmm... Well if the customer isn't willing to pop for a second kit (the AMT one) I may just try and scratch build it... maybe cutting an inline 4 cylinder in half...

Have you already committed to building the model?

Just a thought but if your considering some scratchbuilding then why not start with one of the many Tamiya Porsche boxer engines?

That's a good idea Chad, especially since so much technology is shared.

Hmm... but those are all flat SIXES aren't they? I'm not sure which'd be easier, cutting a 4cyl in half or cutting 2 cylinders off a 6? :p
And no I haven't committed to building it--we're just tossing ideas around.

Correction: the BRAT has an EA-series motor, not EJ.

I am not sure if this will work for you:
http://www.hlj.com/product/HOT80030
It is a diecast and I am not sure if you can rip out the engine from it. The hotworks stuff is pretty detailed for a diecast.

Erm..sorry I've been away. I was planning on using the Brat's motor in the Lotus. It does fit with little shaping. Depending on where you wanted the engine to sit. The fit the revell's, you would need to modify the body on the lotus. That would look pretty rad tho. Doesn't Bob have a spare Brat motor?
I tried to jam a revell porsche boxer. And um..there wouldn't be much of the lotus left if you tried to fit that. More like, building the lotus body around that motor.
Winston- the hotworks diecast engine is only the top portion like most of the maisto diecasts. It is detailed, but nothing really useabale as a base engine.

Thanks Frank... so the Brat's motor DOES look convincing enough to be from, say, a legacy?
