I HAVE A 1984 BMW 533I WON,T START WHEN WARM AND IDLES TO HIGH WHEN IT IS STARTED. DID TUNEUP CHANGE THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, REPLACED THE IDLE CONTROL VALVE, THE COMPUTER STILL THE SAME IDLE ABOUT 1500 TO 1700 ON AVERAGE. STARTING IS A PROBLEM ALSO YOU CAN START IT ONCE DRIVE AND PARK IT WON'T START AGAIN FOR ABOUT 2 TO 3 HOURS, IF YOU TAKE THE BREATHER HOSE FROM THE VALVE COVER IT WILL START, IT'S ALMOST LIKE IT CHOAKING It's SELF OUT NOT ENOUGH AIR OR SOMTHING HELP...

Before I bought my 535i, it had a cold start problem and we took it to a dealer (funny how we had to make the owner get his car ready to sell!) because they're the only one that has the diagnostic tools to perform the tests needed to isolate the problem. They ended up replacing a faulty idel control valve and the fuel pressure regulator.

It sounds like you'd rather work on it yourself but unfortunately a lot of engines are so complex that the diagnostic tools are a must.

Thanks Guy for all the help I have solved all my problems with this car, It runs great now. I had to change the seals on the fuel injecters, also put in an new set of wires, and cleaned are my fuses.
