2004 V6 Chevy Malibu Will Not Start

After getting done grocery shopping we got in the car and drove down the road to get gas. After filling up the tank I hopped in the car and went to start it and it made a rattling sound and flashed the dash lights and automatically popped the trunk before doing nothing. I shut the power off and tried to start it again and it did the same thing. So I got out and checked the gas cap and unscrewed in and rescrewed it. I then attempted to start the car again and the same thing still happened. I called Chevy support and they had me do a few things but nothing solved the problem although now the trunk doesn't pop when I try to start the car. Does anyone know what the problem could be? I have looked in the manuel and also online and haven't found a solution. I will continue to look, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I went back to the gas station to try again and it still did the same thing. I then jumped the car and it successfully started. I am thinking it is the battery, what do you think? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the battery. Low battery voltage will cause the car to do some strange things (pop trunk). The postive terminal is probably about to fall out.

The Delco batteries in GM products are total junk. I had AAA over for the same thing on my '04 Maxx V-6 in late October and yep, the battery was totally shot (fortunately they have a program to replace them on-the-spot). Less than 3 years, but this IS Florida. The driver said that none of them last 3 years any more. At least down here (but cold climates can also be tough on batteries). Don't get another Delco battery, if you can avoid it. Sears also is a good choice, IMO.

I have the original battery in my Sonoma, build date 1-99.

You guys are all right on the money! It was indeed the battery. Thank goodness. Thank you to all who replied.
