Hi all, new to the forum. I did a search before I posted but couldn't find what I needed. My daughter has a 95 Cavalier. I bought a 95 parts car and am stripping it down before it goes to the scrap yard. I pulled the 2 airbags but can't find the airbag module. Everyone says its under the passenger seat, but theres nothing there. No wires or anything. Nothing under the drivers seat either. I DID find a silver box, approx 6" long, 4" wide and about 1 1/4" thick under the center console up front near the floor heater outlet. Is this it? I also found a small square black box behind the glove box. Both boxes had the yellow wiring harnesses plugged into them. What are they? And if they aren't for the airbag, where is it located? Thanx.

if they both had yellow wiring harnesses going to them, then they are both for the air bag system in one way or another
edit: i did a quick search, i found this one site that tells you where the modules are located and if you scroll down about 1/4 of the way for gm 1995, they dont even list cavalier.

I found that also and noticed they didn't list 95. 96 and up says under the passenger seat so I checked there, and also under the drivers seat. Someone on ebay was selling one with a pic and it said it fit 95-99 so I messaged him and asked where it was located so I can see if the pic matched mine and he said it was under the passenger seat. Oh well .... anyone else?

i got a dumb question for you, when you look under the passenger seat are you looking under the carpet that is under the seat? or just under the seat in general?
if you did acctually take out the seat and peel back the carpet to check under the seat area and you still didnt find it, let me know and i will contact a mechanic friend of mine and ask him where it is.

Yep. Cut the rotted carpet out of the donor vehicle. Only thing under there was a wiring harness leading to the back of the vehicle with NO connectors on it and the heater output vent for the rear area. I even looked up under the seats thinking chevy was dumb enough to mount it there.

I checked this out in the Haynes manual and I'll type up the highlights of each paragraph about airbag system, so this may be long, but hopefully it will help...
Airbag system components are located in the steering wheel, steering column, instrument panel, and center console. The yellow wires and connectors routed through the instrument panel and center console are for this system. Do not use electrical test equipment on these yellow wires or tamper with them in any way while working in their vicinity.
Now assuming you do not need to know where the sensors are I'll skip to Diagnostic/energy reserve module (DERM) (I think that is what you are wanting)
The diagnostic/energy reserve module, which is located in the center part of the dash, contains an on-board microprocessor which monitors the operation of the system. It performs a diagnostic check of the system every time the vehicle is started. If the system is operating properly, the AIRBAG warning light will blink on and off seven times. If there is a fault in the system, the light will remain on and the airbag control module will store fault codes including the nature of the fault. If the AIRBAG warning light remains on after starting, or comes on while driving, the vehicle should be taken to your dealer immediately for service. The diagnostic/energy reserve module also contains a back-up power supply to deploy the airbags in the event battery power is lost during a collision.
Hopefully that helps you out some. I see nothing in this book that says anything about the module being under the passenger seat. If you need I can scan all pages in this book about the airbag systems and get them to you...if I can get it to be legiable. Good luck!

Not really a random spare part. I'm selling the airbags out of it since I don't have any need for them and want to keep it as a whole setup with both airbags and the module. I figure $80 obo for everything since they go on ebay for around $100+. The only parts I'm taking off the donor vehicle for hers is mainly sheetmetal. Doors, fenders, hood, trunk, headlights. My daughters car was hit 2x over the last 2 years while it was parked in different areas, plus one her b/f did backing it up in his driveway without looking first. So I figure I'll replace those parts and then get it painted for her.

Well did you find it?

Not sure. All I found so far was a silver box measuring 6"x4"x1" with a yellow connector. It was up on the center hump near the firewall, behind the plastic cover for the heater, and the small black sealed metal box with yellow connector measuring 3"x2"x2" behind the glove box. Nothing anywhere else. I'll be ripping the interior out this weekend, including dash, seats & carpeting. If theres anything else there, I'll find it ..... hopefully.
