can anyone tell me what the size the axle nut is on a 98 2wd?? Nothing like getting everything ready to do the brakes and nut into something you don't have a socket for. Thanks in advance!

If the 98 is any different from 99, all I needed was a large adjustable wrench to remove the rotor when I did my brake job.

That nut should be torqued. I'm guess you didn't?

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same nut but the one I am referring to is the one with slotted sides and a hole for the cotter pin. This nut holds the inner and outer bearing, and the rotor in place on the shaft. I tighten the nut snug (check for drag, check for wobble) and back off to the first slot to insert the cotter pin.

We're talking about the same only mine seems a little different. After removing the dust cover there is a cotter pin, then a strange shaped cover( it has scalloped edges) comes off revealing a nut. The nut doesn't interact with the cotter pin. Behing the nut I can see the bearings.

I guess the best thing is to get the manual (Haynes or Chilton). It should show all the components including procedures for disassy.
