95 GMC Jimmy, 4.3 Vortec, auto tranny. Noticed oil dripping on cardbord on the shop floor. Coming out of the little hole on the botton front of the bell housing. Enough to be concerned about. Got an idea its a rear main seal but never did one before on this vehicle. Ideas, thoughts, constructive comments?

Engine oil or trans fluid? either way rear seal or trans front seal the trans must come out, make sure this is not something running down from the back of the engine.

Engine oil. I kind of wish it was the tranny. Found a Gmc/Chevy tranny guy at work. Guy knows his stuff. Tranny needs a going thru, 156K miles. Once the tranny is pulled, can I get to this rear engine seal? Is it best to put the truck up on 4 stands? Give me a run down on what is needed (steps) to do this job.
Thanks

Rear seal is behind the flywheel. For R and I info go to autozone.com/repairinfo, you will need good equipment here ,this trans and transfer case can be very unwieldy. Think about doing this yourself, may want a real shop environment and equipment, I would..

Back the truck up!
You don't even know where the leak is yet. It could be the intake manifold or the distributor O-ring. Dist o-ring is cheapest and easiest so start there.
Do you really want to drop tranny and replace main seal, only to have the leak continue fromsomewhere else??

Agreed, what I suggested in my first response.
