Alclad2 and XF56

Hi, when Tamiya's instruction calls fo XF56 for engine parts, what's the best proximate color from Alclad2 to replace it? Steel? or maybe darkened Aluminum?

Steel is closest to XF56.

BEst idea is to find reference photos and work to the photos though, kit makers don't always get their colors right.

Agree with Ray, but it will not look the same. Color will be similar, but Alclad flake are MUCH smaller than tamiya one (making it more realistic)

It's a reach to say "smaller flake size is more realistic". Sometimes it is, and sometimes it isn't. For simulating the finish on a forged or polished surface, smaller flake size will look best. However for cast components like engine blocks, the larger flake size in an acrylic metallic is often a better chioce. The only way to tell is with pics of the real thing. The selection of the type of paint you use can be a very useful tool in recreating the many different metal finishes in an engine bay. Don't ever assume that one type of paint is always best for everything.
