Transmission Fluid

A friend bought a 99-Civic EX and wanted to have the transmission fluid replaced. She is only here for the weekend so I have only tomorrow morning to do it.

Anybody knows what transmission fluid to use? We have DEXRON III in the garage now. And also, if someone could tell me which hose brings the fluid from transmission to radiator? I assume it is the one that is coming from the rear.

You're only really supposed to use Genuine Honda Trans. fuild, but Dexron III should be okay if you're only changing about 3 quarts or so. If after the fluid change the car is shifting wierd, then change it to Honda fluid.

Figure out what transmission you have CVT or other.
And remember Dealer OEM type fluid will only hurt one time.

If it's an EX then it has a conventional 4 speed trans, only the HX came with a CVT.

I wasn't able to squeeze it in this morning because of other plans. Next time she visits us, I will just get a Honda trans fluid to be safe.
I went under the car this morning and I couldn't see the drain plug that I am reading in this forum. Is it the headless bolt with a recess that would fit a 3/8 driver? Unlike the cars that I have, this one doesn't have a pan.
This car is automatic... I think it is three speed...

Yes, the drain plug is the bolt that is a recessed 3/8 square. By the way, there is no transmission filter either, just wipe off the magnet attached to the bolt, put the bolt back on, and fill the car with fluid.
