Found a 240!...but...

I was on my way home from school today when i come around a corner a few miles from my house and spot a blue S14 at a dealership. I didn't have anything to do this afternoon so i pull in. (i'm all excited and acting like a 3 year old who just saw barney at this point). As i get closer to the car i realize the lack of a rear spoiler(i'm thinking, ok no big deal, maybe they didn't like it and took it off...thinking very optomistically at this point). I then notice the cheap looking wheels and as i get even closer the lack of an SE badge. As i stop right next to it i look in the window at the automatic transmission and cringe. just as i'm about to turn around an leave a small happy looking japanese man walks out the door and yells hello at me. i respond with "how much?". he wait until he gets over by me and tells me it's a 95 240sx with 118k miles for $4,500 he also openly admits it was involved in a minor fender bender and he had a new hood and front bumper isntalled as well as fresh paint. He offers to start it up and i said sure. after he does he motions for me to get in as he keeps telling me about it(at this point i also realize it needs a new muffler badly, not that it would matters since it would soon be replaced with n1 duals anyway...). So i told him i'd think about it and he gave me a business card.

awww crap. damn them auto transmission!!! well the base model isn't so bad. it just has really ugly stock rims, and that it lacks a front lip and has softer shocks, and lacks the rear wing. and only has 4 lug patterns. but ill tell you this. its alot easier to look for brake upgrades for that car, and the rims are probrably easier to find and steal becasue they're 4 lugs. not that i steal wheels. heh but damn that auto.

doesn't the base model also lack a limited slip differential?

the limited slip only comes in the SE as a option. and that option must include abs. which is not a bad thing either. but to find a manuel SE with a LSD and ABS is extremely hard.

so would one with ABS definitley have an LSD or does that only work the other way around?

because i saw an ad in the paper for a 95 SE w/ abs for $5,500....too bad it's an automatic too tho...

Hey shadowz...I feel your pain...I can't find a nice, clean, low mileage, 5spd 240sx either. Everytime I find a nice low mileage one, it's always an auto. And everytime I find a 5spd, it either has A LOT of miles on it..or they sold it already.

it's 109 miles away though...that's not the problem...problem is it's $6500 and even if i could talk them down to $6000, i don't even have that much, i only have about $4000 right now. i can't afford to finance it and pay car insurance.

hmmm i also found an '89 for $1000 with a "dent in rear", that's all it says...i might call just for the hell of it...friend of mine does body work/painting, maybe if it isn't too big of a dent, i could drop an SR i guess.....i'd much rather have an S14 though...

i dunno what to do...i might be able to get that s14 and pay it off by spring(not drive it til then...) i probly wouldn't drive it much in the winter anyway...ah!

shadowz dood i know exactly how you feel, i found a perfect pearl white 1997 240sx SE and it was manual, 60k miles, $8850.00 totally perfect, well my dad calls to see when we can come down and check it out and test drive it.....the next day they sell it. but good luck to ya on finding a S14, i'm gonna trade in my 2000 Celica GT cuz i like 240's a hellof alot better, all my friends except my friends who are nismo fans, say i'm crazy but, 240's own. soo good luck to ya

If you buy an automatic and do the SR20 swap can you just use the manual from that or is it more complicated?

i'm getting impatient on finding an s14 SE, but i did find an s13 i like. it's a 93 SE, it's really really clean and well maintained but it has 154,000 miles on it. what's the top dollar i should go for it?...also, it has anti-lock brakes...does this mean it has an LSD?

they already sold it...i did find a white 1995 SE for 5800 though. 108k miles. i don't know if it's a 5sp. or not, i'm gonna call tomorrow.
i'm hoping this is the one...i'd rather have black, but o well... there will be 3 white 95 SE's here...hmmm, who will get a turbo first? :D
