no voltage to fuel pump

started with one episode of cranking more than normal before starting, was fine rest of the day, next morning it wouldnt start at all, no fuel from injector, no pump "hum" turning key on. Popped fuel relay, tried another, no go.
checked all fuses as well, under hood and inside car, all good.
So decided to go ahead and replace my 237,000 mile fuel pump anyway, when i got to the wiring at pump, no voltage when you turn key on. Now today i am picking up the new pump, and new tank cause of tank rust out!!
before i put it on, i am attaching unit with old pump to wires to find out why i have no voltage, with Ohm meter i checked the black ground wire, its fine, soooo, my question is, what would e the first place/thing to check under the hood with a 12 wire from battery to verify wiring to rear of car is ok? I assume maybe in socket where fuel relay sits, but have no idea what wire to use.
So if wiring is good and pump runs, what next? any help mucho appreciated!

There is an extra wire off the fuel pump relay plug that is a test wire. You can apply 12v from the battery there and see if the pump kicks on. If it does, the wiring is ok. If not, you have a wiring problem to the pump.

a extra wire? a short length attatched to the socket? I havent went to work on it yet, just asking beofre i do
