Exhaust???

So I got two new tires instead of four to save money for an exhaust system potentially. I didn't really NEED four new tires so I jsut got two. Two goodyear assurance tripletreads like xero because it's fun to copy off of the elite :iceslolan

Anyway, I was thinking... is it possible to just order a Borla muffler and have a shop do a custom cat-back exhaust setup off of that? And what borla would I even be looking for? going to go 2.5" setup (preferrably dual) but I don't know which one to look for...

If I can't find a borla muffler for my grand am, I'll settle with the flowmaster 80 :)

Thanks guys!

OH BTW... do exhaust tips really add to the sound or are they just for show?

http://www.borla.com/products/product_multi_detail.aspx?cat=2&type=43&desc=Universal+Mufflers%2c+Tubing+%26+Hardware|Tur bo+Mufflers

There are like three different mufflers that are 2.5in/2.5out. Does size matter in this isntance or is it just a sound factor? I'd probably use a Y-pipe to convert to dual exhaust too :P

I dont think Borla sells just the muffler. then they wouldn't make a killing off of foools who buys thier products, IMO :D

Tips... I just have dual 2.5" chrome rounds.
I thought about 3" but each tip side was $50 :yikes:

You can have to big of pipe. Like 3" would be overkill unless you had it at the track every weekend.

All the ones I have installled or seen were 2.5" from the Cat back.
The flowmater I have seems to be mellower then when I first installed it. Sounds good idling too. If I keep my foot out of it its not to bad in the city area .

Yeah I read somewhere that too large is actually bad for your performance unless it's s/c or turboed. So I'd get 2.5" all around. ANd if I don't find borla i will totally go flowmaster becayuse I hear good things about it! From you guys and stuff. I will find something. If this all doesnt make sense it's cause I'm taking a lot of shots of vodka lol.

tips are really just show and sorta effect sound but not by much... I stuck with dual tip chrome to keep it simple and nice looking, didnt want like 3inch pipes on either side lol :gay: with my exhaust setup right now .. the 80series 2.5" o/d and the dual tips .. its pretty quiet, loud enough to be heard but its pretty quiet... no troubles though, when I do have enough after xmas for headers + cat.. that'll all change hehehe :evillol:

I started it with just headers and the HF Cat.
No big mods, just the CAI and 62mm TB.

It was loud, like at the race track loud :eek7:
Eyes and ears burning :ylsuper:

gives me something to look forward too :naughty:

did you just start it off on stock resonator&muffler w/ headers+HFCat?

just trying to get an idea how much the headers and cat are gonna open up the bigger piping I have w/ FM80...

What I have on right now its surprisingly quiet, stock headers&cat .. 2.5" catback w/ FM80series dual tip.... the pipe size gets bigger AFTER the cat... w/ some welds and the 2.5" sized down onto the original pipe after the cat & flange... where my holly straight pipe muffler clamped onto

I haveee.... the CAI (i still love it yaay) but no TB as of yet :disappoin .. so expensive from pfyc.com... maybe if I have some Xmas money to spair ill use it as a discount towards the TB.... :iceslolan

which reminds me of the 62mm MAF.... theres that one brand that starts w/ a G .. like grantanelli or something but they dont say the size.. and they have it also with 'cold air' tuning :dunno:

No the resonator was removed before anything.
Then CAI 62mm TB, and I did have a 62mm MAF.

But it would give bad reading periodicly and would screw with performance,
so I ditched it and hav been running the stock MAF every since. It could hav be faulty right out of the box :dunno:
So its pretty much a waste of $$$$ :grinyes:

The 62mm TBs are pricey at RSM/Z-spec , isnt PFYC cheaper ?
MMS listed them for a good price, though I dont know if he actually has them for sale yet.

I have a stock TB that I am still going to try and bore out to 62-65mm.
Then I'll need to get a butterfly from another TB(like TA, V8) thats big enough.
Its just trying to keep from cutting into the IAC and TPS passages :eek7:

pfyc.com's TB is from RSM/Z-spec, same price I think... both do the $100 core charge.. hence so high of price :gay: but luck of actually getting the TB would be from pfyc.com... they have them in inventory I believe and usually shipping is 3-5days (for me anyways, love their service). I've read alot of bad reviews of service from RSM/Z-spec, IMO I wouldnt bother with them

Good luck w/ that bore out on the TB lol

Kinda curious, what ever happen to donkeypunchperformance.com ? :dunno: they had some pretty good items up for sale but the site went under updating but eh its been a few months... think they had a P&P UIM that fitted a 62MM TB straight through or something :dunno: Dont remember much but it was something along those lines
