checked compression today 195 195 195 and with atf in each hole i had 220 in each does this mean my rings are bad ? I also unplugged my oxygen sensor and i didt get a code from the ecm. could the ecm be bad ?

The compression looks good, check the PCV valve and please specify what kind of smoke? blue?black?

I have replaced the pcv valve , o2 sensor and the map sensor . Cleaned the passage for the pcv , the smoke is a little blue but mostley white , it seems not to smoke when first started then as it warms it smokes more and more.
The smoke doesnt have moisture in it it seems to be unburnt fuel . At a idle it smokes and as the rpms go up more and more smoke , enough to leave a trail of smoke at 35 mph when on the gas at all . when i let off the gas the smoke seems almost to vanish. the engine started this after a replaced head was put on it , it had burnt a valve so i replaced the valve and lapped the valves and put the head back on . the car had set for sometime with the burnt valve before head replacement. i think thats all the history i Know about the little mesquito fogger .

Have you run it enough to notice if you are consuming oil? A prior post tracd their issue back to the oil return holes in the aftermarket head gasket. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=634866 Check for oil in your throttle body.

thanks for the idea but ive tryed running it with the pcv disconnected still same results.
i dont no how much oil consumption i have because of a leaking front main seal . tomorrow im pulling off the exhaust man. to see if there is oil from somewhere (possibley i cracked head ?)

Did ya ever find out what's goin on? Did you check the head-block mating surfaces for < 0.003in. max warp? Smoke that appears with throttle, and subsides with engine braking (when vacuum is very high) is a textbook case of bad oil rings (as opposed to valve seals). Your compression results, while quite healthy numerically, seem to agree. Unburnt fuel manifests as Black smoke.

seen this happen before. if you take the head off and replace it without doing the rings the engine will start to smoke. if your going to replace the head do the rings at the same time or you end up with a crop duster.

You're burning oil. It may have been warped mating surfaces until I thought about your compression results. Based on your description im 99% sure you're looking at a failing oil control ring in the #2 cylinder at least. Best thing to do, based on you're healthy compression results (indicating healthy piston to cylinder clearance, would be to hone the cylinders, get a fresh set of rings, a set of fresh bearings and you're good to go. Goodluck buddy. And yes, freshening up a head on a block with worn internals generally spells ring failure.

Years ago I had a Honda Civic with a bad headgasket. While replacing that I decided to do a valve job at the same time. Big mistake. I couldn't believe how much smoke was blowing out the tailpipe. If you're gonna do the valves, ya gotta do the rings too. Check out Dr Bill's mother of all threads for some great info on this.

I just had the same problem, mine was a problem with the new head gasket not lining up properly. I had oil coming out the breather and through the carb. see if you have any oil in the carb bonnet and air filter.
