cold air intake

In your opinion what is the best cold air intake out there?

to answer your question, i prefer the bbk cold air kit i think it looks the nicest. however, if you are looking for performance increase your looking in the wrong area...cai are for looks basically. you would have as much of a noticeable gain as removing your floormats to save weight.

Anything that does not use Steel metal like the BBK or MAC products...

Plastic or Aluminum, something that sheds heat, not soak up heat.

there isnt one, just get a K&N filter and rip out the air silencer, its the same gain, save the money for something like gears or nitrous

the JLT is nice, im prob getting that one this summer.

If your handy just go buy 3" PVC pipe and glue sand paint to look pretty. That is exactly what a JLT CAI is.

The JLT is actually 4" and comes with "4” JLT pipe, all reducers, clamps, MAF adaptor, apron plate (covers hole in apron) and filter." not to mention saves alot of time and you dont have to worry about any non-significant bends fabricating one yourself, which could rob potential HP.

But a homemade one would be ALOT cheaper.

Huh? How is a cool cai tube going to "shed heat" energy into a hot engine bay? Thermal energy transfers from hot to cold. With that in mind, the cai tube only stands to absorb heat from the bay. Plastic is an insulator and has horrible heat transfer properties so it would be the best if someone didn't want to bother wrapping the tubes.

actually fenderwell intakes have the filter inside the fender, with some sort of heat shield.

sorry for not explaining myself, what i meant was that a fenderwell mounted intake has the filter inside the fenderwell, whereas the stock intake has the filter inside the engine bay, even if u remove the silencer, the filter still remains in the engine bay where the air is hotter than in the fenderwell.

It really doesnt help much at all. It may be worth a couple hp on the dyno but seat of the pants its really not worth the money. Unless you have a heavily modified vehicle a cai is useless.

yup thats true, i'm the kind of person that thinks 2-3 hp here and 2-3 there adds up.
