Remote Wire fpr aftermarket amp

I have installed a new after market amp in my 2002 ls running the stock head unit 6 disc alpine model. I previously had an MTX amp hooked to the high power input coming off of my existing stock amp in my trunk. it sounded pretty good, nothing great but I have no complaints. When my radio would turn on the amp would receive a signal from the speakers and turn on. my new alpine amp will not, it requres a 12v remote turn on from the head unit. My exsisting stock amp mounted on the rear deck has a remote turn on wire that puts out a little over 6v wich will not turn on my alpine amp. Where on the car is an easy access 12v line that is only on when the key is turned on? I was at first thinking I could splice into the cigarette lighter until I discovered it is always on. (this is the first car i have ever owned that had an always active cigatette Lighter)

Thanks for the help

Have you checked at the fuse panel in the spare tire well with the battery? I suspect there may be a fused circuit there that is "Hot in Run."

Otherwise, you could make a simple transistor level converter to use the 6V signal to turn on the transistor and have the transistor provide 12V to the remote turn-on amplifier input.

Thanks Rod,

I found a diode in the fuse panel that is ""hot in run". The thought to check the fuse panel never even crossed my mind.

Thanks
