H22 Question!

How much do H22's usually go for? There is a 95 JDM h22 for sale for $3500.00 Is that a good deal? Also, i'm thinking about droping the motor in a '95 civic hatchback. Has anyone done this? I heard that if you change the suspension on the civic to the prelude suspension you won't have the leaning problem. Thanks guys!http://www.graphxtrend.com

That isn't a bad price. The market price for installing a 95 H22A VTEC is $3,900. If you do it yourself it is $3,000.

No, thats just the price for the motor. Installation is extra.

h22 in a civic is not "whoa"..
there are alot runnin around..
the fastest n/a civic/fwd in the country runs one in a crx...
papadakis runs one in his worlds fastest fwd...
the h22 is the shiet when it comes to honda motors and technology...
and the power to weight is sick
i would do it if i had the cash
for example...
the h22 into my 89 prelude would turn my car from a low 16sec 1/4 to a low 14 sec car... imagine that in a car that is just a bit lighter(the civic) hmm.... badass... yeah

That price is about right. But you won't get that engine in that car. It's simply too big. You would need to do extensive modifications to the front end just to make it fit. Your best bet for your civic is to get a B18c and such from the Integra. The lude engines are mostly used for Accords and such.

the H22A isnt all that great due to a poor rod/stroke ratio... causes slow revving. reducing displacement by destroking to 2.0 litres would increase it's power output.

uh.. does B18C5 or F20 hit you anywhere?
H22A's aren't all that snazzy even tho they are Honda's "Big Block"

Extensive modification? What exactly is your defintion of 'extensive'?
HASport mount kit is extensive?
H22s can easily fit in a EG chassis with the use of a custom mount kit (such as Place Racing or HASport)

cutting and reshaping of crossmembers is also required.

What???? You wanna run that by me again? How do you get more power with a 10% reduction in displacement?
Even if you carefully massaged a 2.0L to produce good NA power, I still don't see how it could produce more than a 2.2L with an equivalently expensive massage job.
Has someone been sucessful in building destroked H22s?

actually yes... JG is working on one.
it makes more power by revving higher than the stock H22 bottom end. the rod/stroke ratio of the H22 prevents it's ability to rev too much higher than stock without extensive modification... read:expensive modification.
destroking can square it up for better revability and increase it's power thru higher rpm.

and to add one final note for ya, fritz...
F20C
2 litres of displacement, 240HP, 9000rpm redline. easier to rev due to better rod/stroke ratio, no extreme massaging necessary. pure high rpm performance to milk more power... hence the job JG is working on to milk more power from the H22A.
but to get full 2.2 litres of displacement by squaring it up without losing displacement... would that be possible for not too much?

Ahhh - increased redline. Of course. (duh! )
You said the R/S ratio made it "slow revving" which totally threw me off track for some reason, "low redline" would have made more sense to me. :)
I'm sure you could probably overbore the F20 a tiny bit at least, but I really don't know what the internal dimensions look like. Too much and you'd weaken the sleeves; although you could probably post them. If anyone makes oversized sleeves, you could go that way (with a lot of machine work on the block) and a little head massage (and very expensive, custom pistons). Probably a good .060 overbore with ease.
Do you have the bore, stroke, and rod figures for the F20? I haven't ever seen them.

kinda... it's an F block, and the parts are incompatible except for the valve covers.
correct theory, completely different motors.
as for their power output, it's 180ps, about 175HP.

The sir-t has 200ps, sorry put hp before the auto is 180ps. I thought I read somewhere that it was the same block. I know it's an f block but well shit I don't know. LOL Didn't pay any attention to the block code just read it was a destroked H22a.

Well, the H22A does fit in Hatchbacks, there was a guy on another board that put an h22a into his 93 (i think) hatch, and it ran 13.01 i think.

I have been to a few sites, streetimports.com being one of them, and they sell mount kits for 96-00 civics and they say the H22 will fit in with a mounting kit, one of you said the H22 won't fit into the civic, is this true for the later model civic or is this the case for all of them? :frog:

I know you can fit the H22 into a 92-95 civic pretty easily with few modifications, what I want to know is can you fit an H22 into a 94 del sol, or a 95 civic hatch back?

I'm in the market for an H22A also. I have found them as cheap as $2400. I haven't seen any that were over $3000 grand though? Please contact me if you need some help finding a cheaper H22A.:flipa:

I have also found some low-priced H22's at speedimports.com, and from my understanding you also get the transmission with the engine for about $2500-2600.

I have a 97 OBDII H22A with 56K miles, a clutchmaster 8.2lb flywheel, and an ACT clutch set for sale for only $3K if anyone is interested. The clutch and flywheel are brand new and never even had a chance to be installed. The reason I'm selling is because my car that the engine was going in to got stolen.

I Just purchased an H22A online (JDM) and am having honda put it in. My 93 Prelude Si took on water so I bought the new motor. Should be in, in a few days. Cant wait to drive it again. I found many places on the internet sellin them for 2750 shipped, it may cost you about 1500 to get it installed. The good thing is that the motors will have around 30K on them with tranny. Sweet deal especially since my insurance is covering it. I will place updates soon as I get it back. Emial me with any questions.
By the way I have the old h23a with a bent rod for cheap.
