I just received my Silvia S13 from HLJ, but the box doesn't contain any window masks! How can that be! Do I really have to paint those windows by hand??

Anyway, does anyone who has this same kit know if it's supposed to have window masks?

None of my Aoshima kits have window masks... I thought it was just a Tamiya thing. *shrug*

this might help you out.

Strange, I've never seen a Tamiya kit that comes with window masks... My Aoshima FC3s kit does come with self adhesive masks. Thanks for the link, although that's a pretty hard way to paint the trim... I might as well use a permanent marker.

It's not as hard as it looks. If your hand is steady enough to use a marker, then i'd say give it a try. Although, I'd guarantee you'd get a crisper edge with the masking technique.

Thanks for that link. Ive been doing mine by hand when there are no window masks included on the kits. They came out all right but it could have been better looking. By the way, does anyone know how to avoid having the paint bleed through the tape and onto the window? I used medium sized Tamiya tape and Tamiya flat black, I cant remember the number right now, on my last kit and the paint went through to the window on areas where two stips on tape overlapped each other. I rubbed the tape well into place before i started painting. I also noticed that after the paint had already dried, it would still come off when i pieled the tape off or placed my hand over the area that was painted. Anyone know what or where i went wrong?

Use light coats of paint to cover it instead of one or two thick coats. i.e. spray light coat (doesn't have to cover completely) let dry a few minutes, spray 2nd light coat, let dry a few minutes.. continue till you're satisfied. Light coats are the key

sometimes u cant avoid bleed through, but it it happens, use a toothpick or an old paintbrush with a carved point, carefully scrape the paint off once it dried, or in the case of spray paints, once paint is finger dried, scrape it off before it gets rock hard
