I saw another thread on the same model.
I'm also having a few problems.
One of the problems seems to be steering. Like when I'm backing out from the parking lot and turn the steering wheel while it's not moving and then try to pull out, it makes a sharp shrieking noise which stop when i stop turning the wheel.
Also It used to make some type of sound when I'm turning the wheel which i presumed to be a result of power steering.-- it sounded like faint hydorlics sound. I've noticed that I don't hear that normal sound as much.
Instead I hear grinding noise when I turn the wheel as if the wheel isn't well lubricated.
What do you all think the problem is? And what will be an estimate for fixing it?
I'm thinking maybe steering fluid leaked out or there is some defect in whatever is holding the fluid in. and it leaked out now it's trying to steer without the fluid. Of course I have no idea what I'm talking about.. but that's my guess.
Another problem is that the front windshield appears to be leaking some place. I do no thave a crack at all. It seems to be leaking at the seams. I just don't know where. When it rains I see the water collecting on floor of the driver's side.
How much will this be to fix? If i don't fix this, will it cause any further damages to the car?
thanks for any thoughts.

1. The body is the same for the 97-2001 model. Mechanical and electrical changes were made to the 2000-01 model.
2. Did you check the fluid level? On my 97, the high pressure side hose leaked and eventually blew. After you check this..repost here....it could be the gear box, but these things should be checked first.
3. My windshield leaked also...I had to seal the seam between body and glass and the glass and the rubber seal (mine was also passenger side). I fixed this myself (just did the right side). If you don't fix this leak you will have a large puddle and soaked carpets this winter.
4. Water leaks have been known to happen at the seal for the heat/ac blower gasket...DC Jeep has a superseded part...but requires dash disassembly to install.
5. Do searches on this forum and google...I have written about these things before, so have other persons. See note at top of this forum...

Where would I check this fluid level? I've only had this jeep for less than 6 months. I went to UCI for grad school and bought it when I left. Now I'm in Seattle. And the jeep is having problems. We had a snow storm up here this week and the 4wd came in really handy btw.

Last time it was raining, I thought I saw some water running down the inside of the windshield from the RIGHT side and then run along the dashboard/windshield seam and then disapeared below which collected into the floor of the driver's side. If I was to locate the leak and then try to seal it myself, is that a costly thing? What would I need?

I'm not a mechanic at all, I just know how to drive and put in gas. So the things described above are a little bit cryptic to me.
Thanks for any info.

For the leak...take it to a windshield shop and they will seal it for your.
Power steering fluid....well go to Auto Zone or Kragens and ask the guy to show you.
