ABS Light

Hey all,

I am planning on buying a 95' Firebird Formula. There is not much wrong with it except the ABS light is on. The owner has replaced both front hubs, so that is not the problem. My friend who is a mechanic told me to find out because it could be serious. I know this is kind of a vague question but what else could be setting off the ABS light? Thanks.

It could be somthing simple like debris on a wheel sensor. Could be more of a problem like the ABS module could be bad.

A shop could read the codes and it will tell them and you whats wrong with it. If thats your only hold up that might be the best option.

I agree on getting the code read. If both wheel sensors where replaced it could be the wiring, the rear reluctor or sensor or the ABS module/brain.

Check to see if the brake light on the hatch works - both of those bulbs in that third brake light went out in my 1994 Camaro, and that apparently causes the ABS light to come on. I replaced my bulbs and the ABS light went out. Note: according to others on this site (because this message board is where I found this all out), when those bulbs both burn out causing the ABS light to come on, the cruise control also doesn't work (the computer tells the cruise control not to work because you don't have abs, as I understand it). So if you happen to know that the cruise doesn't work on that car, this may be your problem. Just have someone step on the brakes while you look at the brake lights and see.
