Hi fellow DIYers,

I am trying to diagnose a cooling prob, and suspect the radiator is clogged. Is there a way of checking the rad for being clogged?

Start you vehicle and let it idle up to operating temp (just a couple of minutes after the thermostat opens), turn off vehicle, disconnect battery to keep the fan from coming on, feel the radiator for cold spots.

What are the exact symptoms of your overheating problem? Under what driving conditions? Is the radiator fins free from obstructions and bugs? Old radiator hoses can collapse restricting the flow of coolant. How old is the waterpump? Is the fan operating correctly?
