My exhaust idea

Hey guys. I bought a '94 1500 regular cab short bed with the 350 the other day, and it's balls are HUGE. The exhaust is wasted, and here's my idea for a replacement. Heddman long tube hedders (painted steel) with 3" outlets. The 3" piping would come together on the passenger side, and lead into the 3" inlet of a Flowmaster 40 series. The exhaust would exit out of dual 2.5" pipes and out the passenger side before the rear wheel.
I think the only problem would be that Summitracing.com says that I must modify the rotary A/C bracket if I use the the Heddman hedders.
Let me get your opinions. Thanks.

Why not go with a single tailpipe already?
I would put dual mufflers on it.

I like the look of the the dual sideswept exhaust. I was thinking about dual mufflers, but I THINK that the single muffler would compensate for some of the backpressure that is lost with the removed cat.

I don't know how you come up with that. If you think about it, if you have a muffler for 4 cylinders as opposed to one muffler for all eight, wouldn't you have more backpressure?
If you're worried about backpressure so much, what are you doing putting headers on, and a flowmaster muffler?

I don't see how full length headers and a single Flowmaster would be more restrictive than the factory manifolds, catalytic converter, and muffler.
I'm not losing any sleep over backpressure being an issue, I'm just saying that with the single muffler being the only thing that would be slowing down the exhaust for all eight cylinders, the backpressure seems more balanced than having a single muffler for four cylinders.

It wouldn't be more restrictive. Where did that come from?
If you're going to be putting full length headers, and an expensive muffler, why stop at that? And have dual tailpipes for looks? Kind of backwards thinking no? Put a crossover in there for balance if you want, and get your real duals. Maybe that just makes sense to me.
You can get mufflers these days that are 2 in and 2 out. That way the exhaust is shared.

I would just go with what you wanted in the first place. If you start going true dual your going to start loosing low end. I wouldnt do it. The single in dual out is just fine. 2 mufflers would be totaly pointless. just go with a 3 inch in 2.5 inch out or something like that on the muffler. I would leave your cat on. Just buy a New cat. The news ones flow really good, the last one i bought i could see through. It will save you the large ticket you will get if they catch you. 2 mufflers would not be anymore restrictive than 1. I have a set of flowtech headers going into a 3 inch pipe, cat, then it splits off into dual 2.25 inch pipes, with a set of glasspacked tips. Best system i ever had. I had something like that before only it was a 3 inch straight pipe all the way back with a cat only... very loud/annoying and very poor low end.

just how much does backpressure affect the low end power anyways? im talking in terms of too little backpressure causing torque loss. is it pretty significant?

When i had my open pipes i lost a lot... you need some backpressure.

So pretty much my original idea and a high flow cat? Sounds good.

Hedman Part Number 69440, dual 2 1/4" pipes into dual mufflers into bigger exit pipes..Fake duals with headers sound like ass..
You've gotta have backpressure in 94 most of them had an EGR valve that was operated by exhaust backpressure...
I'll find and post the video again with my old white chevy with hedman longtubes headers, dual flowmasters and dual 3.5" tips behind the
rear wheels
Best of all this exhaust was built with 2 1/4" pipe front to back and the thing owuld tow my car trailer, loaded with my Charger up steep hills without ever having to kick it down
