i mananged to score me an 85 GTS coupe, but i had some questions.

anyone check the plate in the back of the engine bay? mine says ae86 on it, but the first year sold when i registered it was 85. anyone know off chance whats up with that!?

now on to the fun stuff ...
what is the largest set of tires i can put on this bad boy? my friend said i can put upto 16's in. im not entirely sure i want to go that big, but im definatly going to buy new rims since the stock ones are through. i dont remember seeing many rims i liked smaller then 15 though so i want to make sure i can squeeze those atleast.
Engines! i have a friend who is selling the 20 valve engine for a possible swap on my 86 and he wants 1grand for it. is this a decent price? btw it comes with the ecu, wiring harnes i belive, and i think he said it might come with more ... i dont remember off hand. how common is it to find an engine if i pass up this deal?
interior, the drivers seat is torn to hell, anyone know how much i should be paying at a pick'n'pull for a replacment? anyone had any luck finding a junked 86 to pull from!? any help here would be appreciated as this is my new project car.

thanks alot and i hope this helps my research.

Did you say ae86 on the silver plate?! You got ripped off man, that's a hachi go converted 86, i mean sr5 -> gts

1G for 20v is decent
you live near so cal? if so, lots of 20v if you don't get this one from your friend

PYP should have unbeatable prices, i mean under 100 for a seat

go to club4ag.com, lots of guys there to answer your questions

have fun with your new purchase

Ae86 has nopthing to do with the year 1986.

in toyota speak
A=powered by "A" family engine - the 4A-g
e=corolla
8=8th generation
the digit after the 8 is the model. Ae82 is a front wheel drive four door and the ae85 is an economy model ae86.

to the best of my knowledge the history of sporty Ae cars is something like this : Ae71 Ae82 Ae85 Ae86 Ae92 Ae101 Ae111 . Before the 4a-g Sporty corollas were powered by the T family engines like the 2T-g so the sporty corollas are called Te21 and Te27.

to the best of my knowledge the T powered sprinter trueno and corolla levin twins were released in 1972. Toyota were attempting to rally the 2tg powered celicas and realized that they'd go alot faster if they put the celica drivetrain into the much lighter corolla. this gave us the corolla levin and sprinter trueno. 2Tg was used until around 1980 in the Te70 and Te71. In some countries the Ae86 was available as a Te86 using the 3t engine.
