Rattling Noise

I just purchased a 05 Silverado 5.3L. I tried to do a search but did not see a noise issue exaclty like the one I am having. The rattling noise does not occur driving in town, only on the highway. It sounds like it is coming from the driver side dash area and only rattles when I am applying pressure to the gas pedal. As soon as I take my foot off of the gas it stops. The dealership where I purchased the truck has looked at it several times. They replaced the instrument cluster and that did not help. They cannot tell me what is causing this noise. Has anyone else had or heard of this before?

Welcome to the forums.
Could it be comming from your console? I am getting something similiar to that, except it is comming from the console or below the radio unit.
I have not taken the time to really investigate yet. But it is really annoying.

Today the dealership suggested removing the bug guard. They said it disrupts the air flow and can cause problems like I am having. It did not work. It goes in again next Wednesday.

When driving there was a rattling noise that sounded like it was coming from the dash area. It would only happen while I had my foot on the gas usually when driving on the highway. As soon as I would take my foot off the noise would go away. It sounded similar to the engine ping in my old Dakota. After several attempts by the dealership to find/fix the noise the service manager took my truck for a ride and while the noise was happening simply pushed down on the manual transfer case shifter. Everytime he did that the noise would go away.
There is a service bulletin on this. Document ID# 1862943
In this bulletin it states There is not a correction available for the 2003-2007 trucks. The condition is considered to be a design characteristic due to normal engine firing pulse transmitting through the drivetrain along with stackup tolerances in the transmission, transfer case and rear axle.
An improvement for this concern is to place 12mm thick foam washers on the shift linkage between the ball studs and link arm. Part number for the washers are 12475651.
My truck already had one of these washers in place. The dealership added a second. When I took the truck home the noise was much quieter, but it did still rattle a little bit. As soon as I pushed down on the transfer case shifter the noise went away. Also if I just pulled back on the shifter a little the noise would also go away.

It seems that you have isolated the noise to a specific area, which is good. It seems that your dealer has already demonstrated a willingness to work with you to solve the problem, which is also good. Make sure you share that information with them. If they know that the linkages may be the issue, they can investigate that area more closely.
