Oil Pan Question...

I want to replace the beat up stock oil pan when I rebuild the engine, and don't know what the difference is between a "kicked out" sump and a "full" sump. I mean one obviously looks different than the other, and one holds more, but is there really a difference?

Here is what I am looking at:

(Yes I know second says it's for a small block, but it's the same type of o.p.)

Can you use a drag race pan on a driver? I would think the additional capacity would be a good thing even if it never saw a track.

Also I noticed some of the details mention that the pan comes with a pick up for stock capacity pumps... If I upgraded to a high capacity pump would I need a new pickup???
