Sound problems

Hi everyone,
im looking for a little help with what i should and should not do with the sound system in my car. im not wisened in the areas of stereos and speakers, i love whats under the hood. i own a ford 250 custom line 4x4 ute. and i was wondering if there are any limitations to what i can install. i have asked the sales reps in the automotive stores, and no-one seems to able to tell me anything more than "its going to be expensive". my little Sigma scorpion has a large set of speakers in it, but im lead to believe i might be able to go further than 10 inch in the ute. Any one have any ideas for me...i'm open to all suggestions.
