93 Cutlass Supreme Hazzard switch broken

My future daughter-in-law's car has a broken hazzard light switch. She can't turn off the hazzard lights. We tried pulling the hazzard fuse but the turn signals stop functioning.

How hard is it to pull the steering wheel and replace the switch? Anyone know the cost of a switch? We have a steeringwheel puller but would we need a lock plate puller as well?

She is trying to decide if it is time to get another car. Vandals just broke a window the same night the hazzard switch failed. I think she has about 150,000 on the odometer.

Any thoughts?

Jim

Hello,
Does this car have an airbag? If not it should not be that bad to pull the steering wheel. If you could find another Cutlass in the junkyard you could try to tear the column down on the clunker and learn how to get to the switch. You should not need a puller for the ignition lock. Purchase the switch from the scrapyard and install it on your car. Even if your daughter in law's car has an airbag I would not junk the car over this if that is all that is wrong with it. My 93 ciera has 215000 miles on it and still runs great. Good Luck!

i did a similar thing, if no airbags then its no problem, steering wheel comes off, puller needed, then you pull away at parts, and the entire switch comes out, its about 80 bucks from autozone, but all the writes run down the steering colum to under the dash area. i would recommend trying to stick a screw into the hazard switch, and just switch it off, (it sounds like the switch is just stuck in the on position), or maybe just remove the flasher for the hazards, i believe its a different flasher then the turn signals. the flasher should be located on the passenger side on the bottom, just remove the kick panel and its the silver round thing. that should do the trick, at least i think.
