I have recently acquired a 91 Ranger 2.3 4Cyl with the dual plugs. About once a day it has a dead miss on at least one cylinder. It gives no warning, just like you reached out and unplugged a couple of plug wires. Any suggestions??

It may help with the diagnosis if you describe a bit more under what conditions you experience the miss, example: idling, slow speed, acceleration, etc. Does it occur more than once a day? You only have four cylinders so if more than one miss, I doubt it if you can drive with it at all. Perhaps a diagnostic can help pinpoint the problem.

Ok, sorry about that, but I was in a hurry, as always. Uh, lets see, to start with, the miss occurs throughout the RPM range once it starts. at Idle it doesn't seem like a dead miss, kind of a frequent stutter, but as soon as you take off, then you have a dead miss (on only one cylinder, BTW). Also, I discovered that if you are on level ground (a joke to even mention in AR) and you hold the accelerator at the point where the engine is neither under load nor coasting that the engine runs smooth. It doesn't always run smooth at idle, however. As for frequency of the problem, I'd say once every time the truck is driven. It starts soon after you take off, and lasts for about 10 miles or so, then it just smooths back out like nothing's wrong. Sometimes it will do it again later, only for a minute, but shut it off for a while and the cycle starts again. Hope this helps, its very irritating, as you can imagine. Thanks again.

Ok, new development. Had rainy and cold weather last couple of days and no miss! Now I wonder why...

I would spray around the intake with carb cleaner and around the injectors hunting for a vacuum leak. Then check the vacuum to the pressure regulator for any gas. I would check for a loose plug wire and ohm the plug wires to this cylinder.
