hello Rx-7 folk, im in the market for a new ride after my DSM did what DSMs do best...took a huge shit on itself. I have been infatuated with the FD Rx-7 since I was young, but don't have the 19k to buy a good quality example. This might not go over very well with you guys since most of you are probably die-hard rotary fanatics(dont get me wrong, they're sexy motors) but what I really want to do is the *gasp* Ls1 swap. If anyone has an FD with blown apex seals or no engine/tranny, etc, I would love to buy it off them. PM me if you want to sell. Also, I would love to hear some feedback on what you guys think of the Ls1 swap? I understand it's a whole new ball-park as this was not anywhere close to what Mazda intended for the car, but from what i hear, it makes for a superbly balanced car with gobs of instant torque, and it only weighs like 70 pounds more than the 13B.

Granny speed shop has kits available for the swap. Personally, I love the feel and sound of a well-tuned V-8.

Meh, do what you want. Didn't you total your Eclipse? Sounds like you took a shit on IT. If you want to, and you have the money for it, what's the point in asking people? The LS1 is boring IMO, a lot of people have already done this. When I first heard of people swapping in SR20 engines in, it was cool, but lost the novelty quickly. Also, it depends highly on your goals. If people spin out on freeways with the 13b-rew, good luck with LS1... especially if you couldn't handle a 4G63 engine :P

having a car be totaled doesn't mean it's wrecked, it just means that the cost of repairs exceeds the worth of the car to the owner. In my case, the car had 148k miles and the engine and tranny simultaneously went out. I bought the car for $2800, so the cost of repairing the car wan't worth it. I'm not completely sure why you're bashing me on the internet to make yourself sound like a more qualified car nut than I. We all like and know things about cars; that's why we're posting on this forum. Letting it be known that your knowledge is superior to someone elses from across the country doesn't earn you much cred. If you're not a fan of the swap, say so, and I'll honestly take it to heart. But one thing that I won't do is accept ridiculous post-bashing from someone who is probably compensating for a small penis by being a dick online. And the original point of my post was not only to see what the RX-7 enthusiasts thought of this swap, but also to let it be known that I'm willing to buy an engine-less 3rd car from someone for a few grand. A great condition 2nd gen may also be considered, although I'd prefer a 3rd gen.

You wanted opinions and you got it :) I'm not opposed to the swap, I'm just saying it's been done, and if you have the money, do it. Not once did I say I was better than you. Don't ask for opinions if you can't handle it. You took it the wrong way, if I came across as a dick, I appologize. I didn't mean to, BUT you took it the wrong way, and in turn started bashing me and it doesn't make you look any better. Again, I never let anyone "know" that my knowledge is more superior than anybody else, especially on the rotary (and you can ask dftk1d, bahaha) because I'm some what new to it also, but you wanted opinions and you got it. Personally, the sound of the rotary (being at the loudest, most obnoxious state) is something I look for. If you want a V8, go swap it in. If you want balance, buy a FD. If you can't afford it, buy an FC. If you want the handling of the FD, but more power, modify it.

no matter what you end up doing, just be sure to do shit like bushings and other stuff to freshen up the chassis cause the newest RX-7 (95 but you won't find one) is still an 11 year old car.

especially if you plan to run the 2x torque a v8 has over the stock engine.
