What cars have AF'ers owned - how long did you have them, whether you liked them and why you got rid of them...eg
1972 LJ Holden Torana 2250 S Monza Red - I had the car nicknamed 'The Beast' for 6 years from the 4th Form to the end of University. It had a 138 ci Holden 6, three on the tree, non-power assisted drum brakes and initially had a mixture of cross ply and bias belted tires... full four wheel drifts at 15 mph on a wet road... It got the flick when I left University as it started to rust in some critical places.
1992 Ford Laser TX3i 1800 DOHC Mystique Red - My first new car with an appetite for Yoko's, a few quite little tweaks and oodles of fun. Driven every weekend for 4 years during winter for ski (round trip about 730 kms) training. Cheap finishing, light panels but a great little driving package for eating lots of miles quickly and reliably. Got to 50,000 miles and was flicked for...
1996 Ford Escort 1800 Zetec Si Radiant Red - Red 3 was bought to replace the TX3i. A cheap, economical car with great handling but lacking the grunt of the Laser (now an Escort with a Tx3i drivetrain that would have been good). By this time I started skiing in the South Island so it was essentially reliable commuting car (and the first with air-con) rather than a dawnbreaker run car. Was going to keep this for a while but the need to carry round my parents since the accident led to...

1990 Mazda Familia which was the first car I owned. It got me to and from work which at that point in my life was all I needed.
I then bought my FTO which was my dream car. I owned that for just under 2 years. Loved every minute of driving it. I still really miss that car. :(
I sold the FTO and bought my current car, the Skyline. The lure of the turbo is what made me leave my poor FTO. :o
My next car will be an R34 Skyline as I love my current one so much. :D

1976 Datsun 280z: great first car. awesomely reliable. Only thing that went wrong with the engine or drivetrain was a disintegrated clutch. (probably from too many burnouts:D). Did all the body work on it myself. 2.8L straight 6, 4-speed manual. also cost me barely anything to buy.
1988 Mitsubishi Galant: 2.0L four with 5speed. not a bad car but had some issues with this one. bought it because I needed a car. probably got a little conned. ended up chewing through oil. Got the flick as it was costing too much to repair. Traded it in on a.............................
1992 Nissan Skyline GTS-4: This is the badboy. Love this car. It's quick, it handles and it's stylie:D It's also gots lots of potential. Also the most expensive out of any of the above. I think I'll be stayin with this one for a while.

For me...
May 2000: 1991 Ford Escort LX - Bought it 3 days before my 16th birthday, and boy did I ever want to drive it :) Only options on it were power steering and rear window defroster (which didn't even work anyways). It didn't even come with a cassette player when new, but had an aftermarket cassette player installed in the early 90's, and still has it now. August 2001, the car had major rust everywhere, so it went in for bodywork and a repaint in a new color (it used to be cream with black bumpers...:apuke: ). Painted in Ford 1998 "Antique Copper", which had been previously used, I understand, in the early 90's in Europe as "Cosworth Copper." Summer of 2002, the 5th gear shift fork wore out and the car would no longer stay in 5th gear, thus it wasn't highway worthy for the trip back up to Ontario for school, so it stayed at home and the new Sentra brought me here. The car has had the shift fork, shifter bushings, rear brakes, and rear brake lines all replaced in the past week, and my neighbour is currently considering buying it.

August 2002: 1994 Nissan Sentra XE - Bought the car out of necessity (because the ailing Escort couldn't make the trip up here to Ontario), but I wanted it anyways. 5-speed, like the Escort. It's always been garaged and has never had rust (quite a feat for a New Brunswick car), and, so far, is working well with no complaints from me.

I'm still on my 1st- 1990 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8 GL- a stonking 90 bhp all to my self- and the only "Luxury" feature is Central locking, a shitty blankput radio and a towbar - You have seen the pics- but I am going to take some better ones before I go :)
As for my next one- I'm already saving up for a Mk 3 Golf VR6 :D

1990 Honda Civic Hatch, 96hp (6 more then moss!!!). It has no features but steering and brakes. The car doesn't even have electronics anywhere, except my new stereo.
But this car I want to last till the end of Uni, then I'll buy something nice.

haha Power Steering, what the hell is that? My civic doesn't have power steering. Power Steering freaks me out, it makes the wheel to easy to turn.
Trim level? Well the gear stick comes out of the carpet, but i do have 5 seats. Its a basic model civic, NZ new of course.

I want your steering rack!!!!! BADLY! I need some feel in the steering to match the rest of the chassis.
anyway cars:
1st Car: 1978 Datsun 100a Cherry. :ylsuper 998cc and 63hp of FWD Nissan grunt! Actualy the last incarnation of the old British Leyland A series engine from the MGB, Mini, etc etc etc etc in a 700kg 4dr japanese tin can body with 4 wheel independant suspension. Thats right a 4dr car from the 70s with 4 wheel independant suspension and it only weighed 700kgs. Got it from my grandmother at the end of 5th form.
Used to blow away FTGT Corollas from the lights, (untill we got up to 50kph that is) and as you can imagine it had absolutly beautifull handling. But top speed was limited by valve bounce to 140kph. (I can do that in 3rd now)
Great little car, its a shame Nissan replaced it with the Pulsar and then the god damn Primera, talk about taking a technological step back in time. Both of them used a fucken log for a back axle.
2nd Car, replaced the Cherry a week before the end of 7th form with a great classic 6 cylinder brit. One Nelson assembled 1973 Triumph 2500TC.
Again 4 doors, and also red, and also with 4 wheel independant suspension. (from a car orginaly designed in the early 1960s, and released in '63 :finger: ->Nissan ).
Not as agile as the old cherry, but then it weighed twice as much, and with a top speed of over 180kph it was a hell of a lot faster.
The car stayed orginal for about 18months, then I decieded that it needed to go a bit faster. 3 weeks after I got it the wheels were replaced with some 15 inch mags, and these now had the crappy Firestones replaced with some nice Yoko's (start of a love affair). The frount suspension recieved struts from an S model, and it was totaly rebushed frount and back. Then out came the engine and g/box. Both were totaly over hauled, and the engine recieved an up in compression, and some nice tuned length headers.
WOW! did it go better, and a long trip round the South Island saw it hit 180kph with more to go, but my balls getting to small.
Then it cracked a piston. To much Compression, and to many ignition faults.
Out came the engine agian, and this time the head was heavily ported and matched to a custom cam, with some large 175 Strombergs from a Lotus Twin Cam engine.
On a Dyno it showed 150+hp up from 105hp stock, and a huge 250+lb/ft of torque. Thats as much as an 80s era 308 chev.
Not bad from an old 50s designed 2.5L inline 6.
Anyway the car managed 57sec laps around Taupo, only 1sec off a Lotus Cortina, and provided me with plenty of fun, and some very fast and very smoth cross country drives. Lets just say it sat very comfterbly on the ton, and I felt young and invinceable.
3rd car: While the Triumph was lots of fun, and fairly fast, but I wanted some really fast, and pure. Like a Lotus 7. Unforunatly I could only afford to own one, or run one. But not both. So I settled on a Lynx Twin Cam kit car. One of the last of 50 made by some local Kiwis, its uses a Triumph Herald chassis with the rails inverted for strength, and is powered by an old 8v twin cam 2tge and 5sp from an old Toyota Celica. Or I should say was. The independant (<- note this) rear end from the Herald was never designed to work with that sort of power (about 110hp) and the diff completely lost all contact with the material world.
Hence the car is now sitting in a lock up awaiting some $$ to fit a 4agze (super charged engine from MK1 MR2 :D ) and Datsun 180b LSD.
Im thinking 180hp plus 700kgs 6inchs off the ground no roof and no doors should be a bit of fun. :ylsuper
(oh yeah, it was running on some Yokos, which I sold to my Father)
4th car: Sadly the Triumph couldn't live for ever, it died from Cancer about the same time my last Grand Parent did, and she was nice enough to leave me some $. I could have put them into the Lynx, but I needed something reliable to get to Uni and work. (she told me I had to buy a car with the money)
So I baught a 1990 SiR Civic. At the time I thought it was a nice japanese econo box which just happened to have a high redline, and made me smile when it hit the limiter on the test drive.
Oh how stupid I was. After about a month of driving it like the grannys shopping cart I thought it was I began to learn a bit about it. Some resurch on the net showed it to have 160hp. Not bad I thought, especialy for a 1600cc Jappa. Then I learned it only weighed 1040kgs. Hmmm 160hp isnt a hell of a lot, but when combined with 1040kgs it makes for a very nice combination.
So I started to wind it up a little. Began to explore the red line.
HOLLY SHIT! below 5,000rpm its a moderatly quick shopping cart, above 5,000rpm and Hondas extensive F1 history, and long motorsport heritage become apparent. And the best thing is the enginers didnt skimp on the chassis mods either. Up untill last year there wasn't an Aussi V8 made that could catch me in a straight line, and there still isnt one that can keep up through twistys. As for the other Jappas, well I have yet to find anything with 4cyl from the same year that is faster, and its only the much more modern and Turbo'd Mitis EVOs and Subi WRXS that really are a lot faster. Things like GSR Lancers and GSX Famillas in stock form are a joke, and I wont even mention non GTR Skylines.
It turns out the only thing my Civic shares with all the lesser models below it is some interior trim, and the basic body shape. Thats it.
Everything else, Frount and year subframes, brakes, all the suspension, engine, g/box etc are custom made or adapted from other Honda's.
The car is designed to be raced on weekends, and has an almost perfectly neutral suspension set up, and bigger brakes than most 4dr familly cars to show for it.
Oh yeah, it also has 4 wheel independant suspension :D and curently rides on Yoko's. :sun:
phew.
I guess if you managed to read through that then must love cars as much as I do. :smoker2:

1987 Mitsubishi Mirage - The car I learnt to drive in. Parallel parking between a 44 gallon drum and the tractor in the paddock:D .
1989 Mazda 121 Funtop - a good little car to get me to tech each day and to the beach on sunny weekends (with the boards sticking out off the roof:sun:
1990 Toyota Celica GTR 4WS - my first "real" car (even if it was an auto) the four wheel steer made it so easy to park. I would probably still be driving it today had the Auto Transmission started playing up. I took it to the car fair and sold it to some Asian kid fresh in the country so he could drive to Uni (somehow I don't think the car would have lasted much longer:devil: )
1991 Nissan Skyline GTE-x - my current car, I love the shape and how it drives the only thing lacking is MORE POWER and an LSD. So I am now trying to save to purchace my next car (Nissan Skyline GTS-4):frog:

Here is my shortlist. I have owned many vehicles, most just as parts cars and bush cars. The only ones which I have ever had on the road are:
RIP.
89 GMC S15 Shortbox (2.6L / 5spd)

Nope, not my dad's cars.
The Impala was given to me by my father-in-law. It's nothing really to be proud of. It runs, needs needs some new paint, and some TLC to the engine. The interior has all been redone however. It's supposed to be something like our project or something like that. :)
The Crustang I bought for $900. It has 98k miles on it, and aside from being a prior smokers car, is in excellent shape.
The Porsche was my dads, but I have recently aquired it. It needs a few things to be 100% operational. Mainly just a carburator rebuild.

Unfortunately, Moppie has a tendency to belittle everyone's cars except his. Then when he starts putting down other people, as well as their cars, of course I'm going to get pissed off (especially when it's Andy he has a go at :angryfire ).
Anyway, back on topic for me:
1st car: a 1984 Pulsar SGS 5 dr hatch. It was quite cool really, and went not too bad - for a 1.3 L n/a. Sold because WOFs were getting expensive, because of increasing repairs needed. :(
2nd car: 1989 R32 Skyline GTS sedan. Bought for no reason other than I needed to buy something to replace the Pulsar. After I bought it, I decided it was really very nice, and it sucked me into cars in general, and particularly Skylines. Sold in order to get the 3rd car.....
3rd car: 1996 R33 Skyline GTS25t coupe. Was looking for ages to find a silver one in manual. Finally found it. Won't go into the whole story, but if you wanted to see, click on the link in my sig, and you should be able to find the sorry story. Now however, all is very very sweet (173 kW at the wheels sweet :D ), and this car is very definitely a keeper.

Back on topic, cars I've owned:
1991 Sentra SE, 1.6 5-spd.
Bought for $2500, a month later got rear-ended for $500 (just light scratches), drove 24,000 miles, totaled 16 months later for a $2300 settlement. It was a damn good car, plus I bought it cash and turned a profit. Always started instantly, required minimal maintenance (esp. for age/miles). Made me a Nissan lover forever.
1994 Infiniti G20, 2.0, slush.
Bought in Feb., required a little bit of warranty maintenance at the first, as it sat on the lot for a full year, and that messes the fuel injection systems. Since then has been a great car, I've just finished putting 10,000 miles on it and would definitely buy a G20 again, though I prefer a manny tranny. Still there have been times when I was glad for an auto (like stuck in traffic, no more shin ache!). It's a very good car.

my first car.....A Mini !
Yep...at 18 Iwas 6'6" and about 270lb....and Dad decided that it was time for me to have a car.He bought a blood red Mini Countryman(woody) at the auction....it was the ultimate P.O.S.The first thing to fall off was the drivers' door....rust around the hinge mounts. The door dropped alarmingly on the third day,and I had to slam it to get it closed. It stayed shut for the rest of the car's short and brutal existence,I got in/out through the passenger side. One of the side effects of slamming the door was that the floor pan under the pedals fell out...rust again. We cut up the top shelf of Dad's dexion shelving and pop riveted into place.
Among my friends,my social standing rocketed, especially on Thursdays. It was no coincidence that the 'Dukes of Hazard' played that night. The ac fuel pump was the next major item to die,it had a habit of seizing up,leaving us to coast to halt, jump out,tap it with a hammer, and take off again. One too many taps shattered the mount casting,no problem,we poked another hole in the floorpan and the fuel pump spent the rest of its days wedged beside the drivers door.....
we beat the snot out of that car in three months.I scrapped it in favour of an Austin 1300GT.Some people never learn.:o

Well, my list is long and distinguished, but I will give it a shot...
1964 Plymouth Belvedere
First car and first love I guess, had the push button automatic, beautiful car with loads of personality. The car was 5 years older than me when we met when I was 16.
1970 Chevy Nova
Don't get your hopes up, it was a 230 in line 6 with the 2 speed powerglide tranny...winter beater
1988 Chevy S-10 Tahoe
1978 Dodge Ramcharger
1993 Ford F-150
Then came my enlistment in the Air Force, so in England I had a bunch of cars...
Austin Montego
Zastava Yugo 311
BMW 316 (again, a beater)
Two Vauxhall Cavaliers
Fiat Uno
Austin Metro
Ford Granada
Austin Mini
Back to the states and to Texas...
1997 Ford Mustang GT (in storage now)
1973 Chevy Impala
And now in Japan...
1991 Toyota MR2 G Limited
1992 Toyota Supra 2.5 Twin Turbo R
1993 Nissan Skyline GTS25t Type M
Whew...

I actually prefer the LX 5.0, rather than the GT with all the crappy cladding...

Saw a Corrado for the first time when I was 10, and I knew I had to have one. So I started saving money, everything I ever got/made/found went into my "Corrado fund". But by the time I turned 16 I figured I needed a motorcycle, bought the RS125.
So when it was time for me to buy the Corrado, I didn't have enough money to buy one in Norway, so I imported one from Germany. Later bought a '82 Golf GTi.
Making it a grand total of two:
'93 Corrado VR6
'82 Golf GTi

Now why would you go saying something like that??
:lol2: Some people really do take the internet far to seriously!
I never said a Skyline wasn't a slow car, all I did was mention that prehaps thier not the be all and end all of Japanese performance when so many ppl think they are, or prehaps I was pointing out that by being as fast as a standard turbo skyline my Civic is faster than it looks.
You know GTs-t Skyline = Fast car.
Civic as fast as Skyline.
therefore Civic also = fast car.
And Moon are you in some way implying that Andy dosn't know anything about her car becasue she's a women? How narrow minded! I certianly never made any mention of her gender, nor do I care. The Lotus Cortina I mentioned being 1sec faster around Taupo than my Triumph just so happened to have been driven by a women, but it has nothing to do with how well she can drive, or how much she knows about cars. Your the one who jumped to conclusions about Gender, subconcious thoughts coming up prehaps?
oh, and thanks for telling me my car is FWD, now I know why it must be so slow. I guess thats means that any RWD car is by Virtue faster.
Try opening your eyes to the fast that Nissan is not the only company in Japan to make performance models, and that prehaps they don't make the worlds greatest car. Especialy when a little shitty Honda Civic is just as fast out of the box. :finger:

get bent. Am I implying she doesn't know anything??!??!?!?! WTF do you mean? you're the one who said she doesn't know what MIVEC is, or how much her FTO weighed (both of which she does).
And if you'll look through every post I've ever made, I never said that a Civic can't be fast. Once again, you are the one who puts down other people and their cars. I am well aware that Nissan isn't the be-all and end-all of performance cars (nor is a Civic, I have to say). And as far as being as fast or faster than a turbo Skyline, I'd be surprised. Let's look at power to weight, torque to weight, whatever you want. My guess is that you just give your car a bit more death than have the Skyline drivers you've gone up against. (Or they were non-turbo.)
As for your car being FWD - now maybe you can stop whinging on about other people having autos. Probably not, but I can live in hope. Some people like auto, some like manual. Just like some people prefer RWD, some 4WD, and some even prefer FWD.
Grow a brain, and stop ragging on other people and their cars. (Not really very moderator-like behaviour, I might add.)
