on a 420a engine can it handle a 50-75 shot of nos stock????? im rebuildin my engine but if it wont then might as well change some internals........(and im just lookin to run nos at the track maybe 3 times at the most in one night not fast and the furious style every 5 mins)

Basic answer... No. It technically can, but not for long. You could do that once and blow it up, or it could last forever. Not worth the risk. If you're rebuilding, then swap out internals.

EDIT: And its nitrous... not nos!

NOS is a brand nitrous is a gas.

I would say if it was in good shape to begin with and ran healthy it would handle a 50 shot for awhile safely. Granted you have SOME of the basic speed mods and not just nitrous. This is also assuming you have a wet-shot setup.

Wouldn't a dry setup be better with stock?

From my understanding, dry setup is never better. It's more of a shock to the engine, which isn't a good thing.

I wouldnt do anything but direct port. That would be the safest way to do it and if you shop around it should be too bad. Before I got my cams, I came like an inch away from I think either a Zex or NX direct port setup with I think 35-50-75 jets for less than a new wet kit. It was most of a used setup and I think I only had to buy a nitrous solenoid, a line or two, and a bottle or something along those lines, but I think all in all it was going to run me around $500-$550. I would snoop around and go direct port if you can, if not I think wet is the way to go.

There really isnt alot of difference between a wet kit and direct port. A wet kit sprays fuel and n20 in the intake usually 6" before the Tb whereas a direct port kit sprays it in right by the injectors. dry is gay and you run a better chance of leaning out espically on a stock system. Best bang for the buck is wet IMO and its the easiers to install. Direct port takes more to put in

3 times a night for how many nights is the real question here... Thats some heafty abuse on the motor.

Direct port nitrous is easy to put on. The tap for the ports comes with the kit, so all you have to do is remove the stock manifold and tap behind each injector on the manifold. Takes like ten minutes.

The hardest part is getting the damn manifold off and on.

I can't imagine anyone using anything other than direct port, it's the best system all around.

:1: Think about it, wet (or dry I guess but anyone that buys a dry kit is an idiot IMO) kits might not get the correct nitrous/fuel mixture in each cylinder. And correct me if I am wrong, but I think wet kits can puddle up easier in the intake manifold posing the risk for nitrous backfire. I dont know, I wouldnt go any way but direct port.

All this talk about nitrous makes me want to get a smaller turbo and get a 75 shot or something, but that would be more money for the kit, refilling the bottle, more dangerous, and I wouldnt have all the power on tap all the time.

The only way I would ever use nitrous is in addition to another power adder and in my case thats a turbo. I dont remember the exact math but its something like for every second you have a 100 shot going you use like 5 lbs on nitrous so refilling your bottle becomes a hassel and expensive if you do it on a regular basis

ok well like i would only use it at the track and i only go there like once a month if even that.......... i already have a turbo on it but i wana have a lil extra power if i really need it ......... really the only thing im changin is my pistons which i am puttin forged everything else is basically stock in the kit im thinkin bout buyin ........ really wat internal upgrades should i make to run a 50-75 shot safely?????.......................and also my trans is gettin close to the max hp what kit is the best to make it hold up ........

No kit for the trans. Just a rebuild or a new one and new clutch.

If you're rebuilding the engine get everything new. Pistons, rods, bearings, crank. May as well do it right. And with using it 3 times in 1 night once a month, still adds up to a lot.

You are going to need some decent rods for a 420a if you plan on making any amount of power and cams would really help.

.

so if my trans is good right now just leave it alone and get a clutch??? cuz i herd that a mits trans can only hold up to 250 hp..... or is that rong???

you dont have a mitsu trans you have a chrysler trans. The trans on the 4g has held into the 10s and I know the 420a neons can hangle 500+hp on the stock trans but I dont know about eclipses

i already have a turbo on it

You seem to have left that little piece of information out. I change my answer now. Unless you build that motor up, it won't last long now that you turboed it and want to run nitrous. The 420a just won't handle it unless built right.

Drop the compression a couple points too when you build it. Right now you got a high compression engine running boost and if sprayed, will blow something up. That's more then a stock 420a can handle from the factory.

Yeah, I agree with Dave. I would probably go 8.5:1, that seems to be a pretty good number.
