2005 GT Locked Out

We have a 2005 GT convertable. Last week the battery died (dealer said it was simply a faulty battery), and when it was dead we were locked out of the vehicle. The remote didn't work (naturally) but what I found odd was that the keys would not unlock the door.

Since the keys would not allow us to manually unlock the door, I couldn't pop the hood and change the battery so I had to have it towed back to the ford dealer (it is under warrantee).

Is this normal for the 2005 mustang GT? If so, it seems kinda dumb...

When I get a chance, I'll disconnect my buddies battery and see if I can unlock his doors manually to see if its an inherant issue with the 05s. I do not know how long this will be, since his 05 has been back at the garage getting work done on it, since FEB. We have to do light conversions here in England, and his lights have been screwing up ( no turn signals, brake lights would stay on all the time, stuff like that).

the key should have worked just fine. Thats kind of odd because if you can't open it with the key there really is no other way to open it even at the dealer.

alot of newer cars have special theft deterrant keys, with a little black chip in them. i don't know how it works, but i'd have to say the car has an electric sensor that detects the key. no power, no key function. ?maybe?

i work for a car dealership and am the designated "Ford Bitch" as it is a chevy dealer, i work with all types but i always end up with the fords. i personally test drove b4 buying my 04 instead of a 06 gt 11 other mustangs on the lot and none of them have this problem. nor have i heard of a problem like this other than with saabs the new corvettes and and the cadillac xlr which have strictly power fuctioning doors ie there is no handle on the door or keyhole. it is more than likely they have had to change either the locks on your car or the ignition causing you to need different keys. make sure you check into your cars history, especially if you bought it used. even slightly used, ive cleaned cars for delivery and seen them in the body shop the very next day smashed to shit, they probably didn't even make it down the street with them, low mileage doesn't mean its brand new. let us know what you find.
