Help! My 97 4 dr, Escort is leaking. After driving for 4 hours in a hard rain I discovered that my rear floor and trunk were flooded. Door seals, window seals and trunk lid all appear to be fine. Where could all this water be coming from? Has anybody had this problem before? The car is normally garaged, so this has not appeared before.

Ugh..water leaks are never fun. Most common locations I've seen for water to get into the trunk include the backside of the lid near the rear window, and in around the taillights. If you don't mind spending a little bit, I highly recommend you have a body shop look at it, they're used to water leaks. Perhaps even just talk to the body shop manager at your local Ford dealer about the most common leak areas on the 97+ Escorts. Hope that helps!

I'm having the same problem with my 98 Escort. Here's what I've found - Remove your passenger seat and plastic threshold pieces to allow you to lift the carpet up. I'll bet your leaking where the corrugated metal floorboards attach to one another. It looks as though it should have been caulked, but it probably wasn't.
After pulling the carpet back, wait until dark or have the car in your garage. Place a light under your vehicle, and I bet you'll see the light shining through your floor board. I fixed 3 spots in mine. I also have another leak behind the dash on the passenger side that I have not been able to track down. Good Luck.
