i have a question that was not answered in the forum for my vehicle, a 73-87 chevy c-10 pickup, but i hope you guys may have some kind of clue possibly. my question is do you guys think that a 15 inch cragar that is 10 inches wide with a 12inch wide tire that is the stock spec around (to keep the speedo accurate) will fit in the rear wheel wells without me needing to tub anything or make them stick out and look stupid? i dont care if they rub a little when i accidentally run over a curb or a large rodent (aka saskquatch) lol...

Measure your wheel travel to determine how far up into the wheel well your tire will go, then measure the width of the wheel well. I do think you will run into some serious rubbing in the front with that wide of a tire when you turn, it will hit the inner fender, outer fender, and the control arm. On the rear it should fit, just measure it first as a tire hitting a wheel well can get destroyed fairly quickly. My buddy's 79 1/2 ton didn't rub with 33-12.50-15's on it, and they are pretty wide. Just watch your wheel offset.

thanks for the advice. i think i will be sticking to stock-width tires on the front with some stock-width 15x7 or 15x8 cragars, the rear end is all i need to worry about. i just want to make sure that the 383 stroker im building will be able to get traction, since it should theoretically have around 500 lb/ft of torque and 470-475 horsepower at the crank. i have the original posi 12 bolt rearend but i dont think it will be enough traction with "regular" tires. hopefully i have the same luck as your buddy did with his. ill have to measure everything when i get the new pieces for the bed and get it on there. (basically the only thing not replaced is the front panel of the bed and the cab itself)

by the way, did your friends truck have the tires sticking out in the back at all or did they stay inside the wheelwells, i dont want it to look like some ricer lol (no offense to tuners out there, just not my cup of tea)

Tires didn't stick out at all, and I'm not too sure what he used for an offset either. I do know it was a monster to drive, kept breaking steering parts.

not to mention having the tires stick out past the wheel well is illegal in several places.

hehe yeah here in omaha i know for a fact that if it is illegal, then the cops must have gave up on caring about it. the southern parts of omaha have a lot of latino population and probably 1 out of every 2 mexican dudes here has a late nineties ford F-150 with itty bitty wheels on it that stick out at least a foot sometimes. i personally think it looks really stupid, and they likely dont change out rear end gearing so they probably are in top gear spinning 3000 rpm just going 40 miles an hour lol...

glad to hear that 12 inch wide tires can fit... i was assuming they would since the older 73-80ish chevys have the tires pretty far inside the wheelwells so a few more inches would be a sinch. ill have to just give it a try or ask a tire shop here in town if a specific combo would work or not.

Is it a shortbed/long/stepside? Those trucks are freakin sexy, I wish I had one.

In VA the tires can only legally stick out 3 inches past the fender. I have to change the tires and wheels on my jeep back to the stockers for inspection cause my regular ones stick out a hair more than 6".

Here in nh your tires can't stick out at all. Kinda sucks, but you can get exceptions, like hot rod plates which means you can run open wheel, which is pretty cool. I know someone who has a t-bucket, looks cool and goes like hell, but its a bitch to control.
