Can a "not so fresh battery" cause problems?

I was wondering about that, seems to me I remember some mechanics and owners agreeing about the nesesscity of replacing any battery 4 years or older. My battery is about 4 years old and I am wondering if this can cause intermittent problems with the Malibu's OBD2, and associated diagnostics.

Only if it is getting weak or losing voltage.
A good load and voltage test will show a weak battery.
What kind of problem are you having?
