i have a 97 gtp......just took it into the shop w/ lack of power, bad mileage etc and a "lean fuel" code.....they're telling me that it's the catalytic converter.....but couldnt it also be the O2 sensor???????? well they wanted $500 for the cat and i was talkin to some others and they said if i could figure out the measurements of the inlet and outlet then i could get a "generic" converter....i know thats not the best way to go but im poor! i certainly dont have $500 for that (just parts). so my question is, does anybody already know these measurements?
also, my rear struts are REALLY bad, any recommendations?

How many miles are on your GTP?
That is a plausible explanation although it could be a bad 02 sensor (front) too. What you can do DIY is remove the 02 sensor and inspect it. You'll need a special 7/8" 02 sensor socket with wiring harness cutout...around $10.
Clean the sensor vanes with carb or throttle body spray cleaner. Reinstall and then see what it does. A bad CAT could cause a lean trim due to being clogged as will a bad EGR valve, vacuum leak, leaking fuel injector seals, etc. Nothing wrong with a generic aftermarket CAT, especially if it is a hp hi-flow. The CAT in/outlet should be around 2.25" stock.
If you have over 70K miles then new struts will help. I use KYB GR2s.
