Speed building...how fast do you build?

People have asked how long it takes me to build. I've got a reputation for being a speedy builder, and can knock a kit out in a short time. I certainly don't have the luxury of being able to do that frequently, but usually once started I can have a simple kit completed in well under a week. Three examples:

This PT Cruiser was completely built in one day. It was a crappy day, rain and tornado warnings. Good day to be in the basement. Everything from primer, two-tone paint, polish, foiling...everything during the course of a long day. Thanks to a food dehydrator, Tamiya sprays, and an easy to build kit. Yes, it can be done.

The MR-S arrived at my doorstep on a Wednesday morning, by Saturday it was finished, and I was already working on the Civic Type R that came in the same shipment...it was finished a few days later.

This one took about 7 months. Started the body mods, then got a bit disinterested in it. Kept mulling over paint schemes. I wanted to do a Saleen, but my printer was acting up and my idea for decals wasn't going to work. I didn't really want to paint the graphics. So it sat. I mulled over using Integra graphics, but that just wasn't doing it for me either. Then Revell issues their Saleen Mustang convertible. With like 4 sets of decals. Bingo! That got me to finally finish this beast! In the meantime I had received the rims and some giant speakers that you really can't even see in it. Sometimes you can't build 'em fast, it's worth letting the ideas give themselves time to gel, even after you've started the project.

I've tried speed sleeping, getting eight hours of sleep in two hours. That didn't work, but I can build a model in a week or less.:frog:

My fastest kit was in two weeks (the one in my sig). I probably could do a Fujimi tuner car in under a week..
BTW, I remember seeing that PT Cruiser before (was it in Scale Auto? can't remember) I can hardly believe it was built in one day, your top job makes it seem like a lot more than 1 day was put into it :)

hmm hard to say really, it varies between a week and a month

most of the time it's dependant on a smorgasborg of schedule/monetary/motivation/weather factors

the fastest I can build is a full weekend, thats starting from friday night after I come from the track, till like 12:00 PM< this is when the body is first coated. then, waking at 9:00 the next morning I hardly eat and go right to it. and I just build all day, taking break for things to dry and such. then, on about sunday night its ready to be shelved. sometimes I may add little details on and off for like 2 days after I am done with a model.this is when I get a free weekend tought, which is like NEVER!!!!!!

Before when I was at home and hand brushed everything I used to biuld my models in a day(Of course they came out like carp,using them for parts now)

Umm... Let's see... I finished my NSX in about 6 months; only had to respray it once. Finished the MR2 in about 2 months...

The S2000 has been on and off the table for 3 years as of next month. :o

According to this thread (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34532), The WRX wagon has been in front of me for 6 months, and it's due for another respray (#3, IIRC).

So, uh..., my average time is pretty high... :p :bloated:

Um, usually finish a kit in about two weeks worth of modelling, split over quite some time.

The XJR-9 I'm working on now I've been building for 6 years, I have an MR2 that I'm about to re-spray that's 4 years old an not done. The S2K i'm working on I'm aiming to finish sometime this year:rolleyes:

I used to put them together in about 3 hours, and we all know how that looks. Now it takes me about a week to do a model. But on my current ITR, it's been almost 3 weeks on just the body.

yikes!!... that is fast. mine would be err......2 weeks to a month. i have stopped working on the Tamiya Supra cos wants to concerntrate on the interior....cos my first attempt at doing the interior really suck to the max...here is what i got...chrome silver (X11) for the dash. the rest is semi gloss black(X18). and the seats....red with black .yeah i know looks ugly aint it????

the result of the depend that the time you use to build it......
It depend of what you want to improved or modified your model...

I prefer to create a body kit or to tranform a model to have a unique model.... It's to easy to build as the notice..... We have some artists here and all the days we see the pics..... Here, tat what i like....
