a while ago i was trying to get a program that would allow me to watch a DVD from any region on a region 2 (i believe) machine. the problem is that somewhere during that my computer acquired a program of some sort that opens internet explorer to pages adversising casinos/dating services/etc. i don't want any of that crap, and i especially don't want the stupid things popping up any time the computer's connected to the internet.

so here's my question: does anyone know of a method/program to find and destroy/remove whatever it is that's making these things come up?

Thanks in advance,
Chris.

your anti-virus (package) should have a spyware killer in it somewhere......

I agree w/BrodyP. Use Firefox. It has an automatic pop-up blocker.

they're not like just popups.

it opens internet explorer and it's already at a site. (there are various sites)
i have a pop-up blocker, but it doesn't stop this.

So you mean you managed to survive more than two years without current anti-virus? Lucky you. Get another anti-virus soft or renew your subscription.

The only way I see to fix your problem is current anti-virus. All the rest is automanipulation.

C'mon guys, this is not hard at all. I can't believe after 10 posts nobody has posted this information yet.

Get Spybot and Ad-Aware, update them both, and run each scan. I will bet my car that one of them finds your problem and eliminates it. Just follow the simple instructions for each one, and make sure that at the end of the scan you actually press the button to remove all the shit it finds.

Here are some links, since I'm bored:

After your IE is fixed, you will probably have to go in and change the home page if it was changed to the casino site or w/e it was, since the program will only remove the spyware that keeps redirecting it to make that your home page, you just have to change it one last time at the end and it shouldn't change back again.

Also, when using Spybot, make sure you "Immunize", as this will prevent some future shit from screwing up your computer.

Just wanted to add, that my car is in the safe zone. :grinyes:

If anybody else has problems with spyware and shit, run the programs. They work. It may save you from having to reformat.
