Had the chain and gears replaced Saturday. all Kindsof power now when the engine is cold. After it warms up the missfire comes back. Checked fuel filter, IAC, TPS, Ign Module, MAF, MAT, all injectors working great, replaced coils packs, and new Bosch plat + 4 plugs. No improvement. Now what? The rough idle is gone cause of the new chain and gears.

You didn't say what size engine but you should really replace the plug wires or connectors if it is a 4 cyl. You didn't mention it in your post so if you haven't changed them recently you may find that this is causing your problem.

it is a 2.3 so the plug boots may be causing the problem

Correct or swapped injector wires ( not likely).

:banghead: yesterday after i got the car back from the mechanic i drove it and when it wasnt missing i really hit the gas. when i got to the stop sign it died. it started back up fine and idled perfect, but when i put it in reverse or drive it would jerk forward and die. finally i put it in 1st and it stayed running so i could make it 3/4 mile home.

Sounds like you have other issues.
Almost sounds like your Tcc in the trany is acting up causing it to act that way when you stop.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: plug wires didn't help. coils didn't help. Bosch +4 spark plugs didnt help. have ruled plugged exaust. no ses light. iac didn't help. ruled out head gasket, no loss of coolant. will try a compression test to rule out burnt valve ro cracked cyl. all injectors working. haven't tried coil housing yet but nothing appears wrong with it. runs like a raped ape until it heats up to operating temp. Any other ideas, thanks much in advance.

Your ignition system could have a short somewhere.
Clogged/dirty injectors, leaky/faulty EGR system,
and Vacum leaks could all contribute to your miss.
