Odyssey Driveability

I have an 02 Odyssey EX, 75K. When it shifts into 5th gear, under light load at 40 MPH the engine surges. If I force a down shift, it runs fine. On the highway at 55+ in 5th is runs fine. All other situations, it runs fine. No check engine light. I searched the forums and can't fine anything. It IS an EGR problem, replaced the valve and everything is good again.

how many miles are on your car as of right now? if its under 100k, honda has an extended 100,000mile powertrain to cover the tran's...if a problem can be found....

Seems to me you may have an EGR problem. Can you demonstrate this surging upon request? If so take your van to your nearest Honda dealer. There is an 8/80 extension for the EGR valve. Have the dealer refer to TSB 05-026. This seems to match your symptoms precisely. Best of luck.
