I'd just got some Alclad II Chrome. After reading some threads around here and reading the instruction on the bottle.. it says to primer with Gloss black (Lacquer)..
I went ahead and bought Model Master Custom Lacquer System - Gloss Black.
The problem is that.. I cant thin the damn thing :banghead: after coming home I'd read the fine print saying it needs the Custom Lacquer Thinner to clean or thin. Is there something else I can use to thin?
Is there any other kind of gloss black I can use for Alclad II Chrome? Just wondering if anyone experimented with other paint base.
Does it have to be gloss black, can it be flat black? :bloated:

I'm not following what you are saying, but I use Testors Gloss black enamel. Alclad seems to hang on to that much better. I've also used Tamiya TS-14 and it too has worked.
It's best to have the thinner that matches the paint you are thinning. I use lacquer thinner for clean-up, and use the paint thinner associated with the product I am using.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Chris..
So Enamel "gloss black" should be used for base primer for Alclad2 chrome..
Did you use the testor square bottles (gloss black), thinned it out and airbrushed it on.. or did you just went and got the testor spray can (gloss black)?
I've heard you can also use - Gloss white or grey?

I think Alclad themselves recommend Enamel Gloss Black (it has to be gloss not matt) on their website. The link is http://www.alclad2.com/alclad-home.html
The link is not working at the moment but it worked fine yesterday because I was looking at it.Must be some technical glitch.Try it again later.

Read this (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=638256) - it's very informative if not definitive.
