My rear brakes need a good looking at. But the tried to take my drums off the other day, and they stuck on pretty good.

I was gonna try hitting it with a brass hammer, but I didnt know if it would brake anything on the inside?

is there a method to remove a stuck drum?

If the drum is "stuck", that's an indication of serious wear on the inner surface of the drum. You will need to adjust out the brakes to get the drum off. You can google this information.

There is a chance that they are rusted to the axle flanges as well. Do they move at all, or just completely frozen to the axle?

If they will move but get hung up on the shoes on the way off, back off the shoe adjustment as silicon suggested.

You will need to adjust out the brakes as noted above. Also, the drum may have rusted to the axle itself. I had a hard time getting my drums off an 91 Chevy P/U years ago. I had to use a propane torch to heat the center of the drum. After just a minute or two there was a....metal popping sound... and the drum came right off then.

If the case was that the drum was rusted on as it was on my '89 Sierra and CD Smalley's pickup, after you get it off put some Neverseize or just some grease on the area of the hub that the drum sits on to avoid any further corrosion. That way next time down the road it'll come off effortlessly.
