hey all,
I am going to rebuild the engine in my 97 k2500. It is a 7.4L/454 with approximately 135000 miles on it and there has been a definate loss of power, not a lot but noticeable. There has also been a distinct knocking coming from a couple of the pistons and now my wife says it smells when she drives it. The reason I am posring this is because I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a good rebuild kit. I have already looked at summit and they dont offer anything for that year/engine combo. Also are there any special parts that i need to look for or pick up. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

That's not very high mileage yet.

Your local parts places should have some rebuild parts.
But a engine rebuild is a long way from a engine overhaul kit.
I would consider and or price a GM crate engine.
They carry a real good warranty
Sometimes cheaper than you can do a complete rebuild.
By the time you get all of the parts and have the machine shop work done a rebuild can run into big bucks.
Look at both sides.
Good luck
