How does this nor'easter get HEAT

Lookin to put a heater in my car. My feet almost froze tonite and its only november! What do I need to give my car heat? I know I need a blower motor and a heater core? Beyond that, i dunno where to put them or how to hook it up. Little help will b-b-beeeee appreciated. Burr.

Is this for a 74 Nova? If so I believe they all originally came with heater/defroster systems installed. Look at another car to see what is missing on yours, then you can get what you need from a donor car. You need the switch assembly, heater box, heater core, cables that operate the doors, ducts to the windshield, fan and water hoses.

The only way I could imagine all this stuff would be missing is if someone was making it a race car and pulled it all out. Yank out the glove box and open the hood for access to the box.

Unless the car was originally built for delivery to Hawaii, it must have a defroster at the least (D.O.T. regulations). And I think GM stopped building the non-heat/defrost variants well before 1974, anyway.

As indicated, unless the system was ripped out to save weight, it should still be there. If not, you'll be looking for a blower case on the front side of the firewall and a core case on the rear side of the firewall, plus ducts, the core, hoses, control, cables, wires, etcetera. Without even removing teh glove box, you might be able to dive into the passenger side footwell head-first and see if the core case is still there. The blower case on the engine side of the firewall should be obvious, or obvious by its absence.

i feel your pain. I bought my 70 from a guy in phoenix az and for what ever reason he felt the need to remove the heater. two winters worth of freezing my ass off convinced me to do something about it. Given the way you phrased your question Im going to assume that someone removed yours. The first thing that you need to do is determine whether your had a basic heater or Air conditioning, the holes in the fire wall are a little different. I went to desert valley auto parts in phoenix and for about a hundred bucks walked out of there with a basic heater box, controls and cables out of another nova. I you junk yard your set-up the as i did be sure to put a new heater core in. Its only 15 bucks at any parts store. There will be to 2 tubes sticking out of the heater core. One of them will go to the water pump and the other will go to the intake manifold. If you was heater was removed then there will be plugs in those ports you will have to remove them and buy the appropriate fittings which are also available at any parts store or try to get them at the junk yard with your heater. there is also a wiring harness that runs from the controls to the heater box itself that controls the fan speed.
