what goes here?

I was curious as to what was supposed to be in the second generation luminas, in the dash, below the radio. A friend of mine has a [second generation] lumina and there is a hole where [something] is supposed to be. We scoured a junkyard, and every lumina had the same square hole. I'm thinking it's gotta be for an ashtray, because on my '93 lumina that's what's there. I was just curious as to why I couldn't find a single lumina that had it in there.

Yeah theres a thin drawer like a CD player drawer that is actually a cup holder (useless)

hmmmm, i wonder what could be fabricated to go there instead of a cupholder? any ideas? maybe something thats spring loaded that pops out???? Temperature and compass would be helpfull sometimes. any ideas?
