Hello,
I am new to this forum as well as to the land of Mitsubishi.
I just purchased my first Mitsubishi Eclipse RS.
Its a 1998 but was interested in getting a newer one because I liked the clutch less shifter that I saw.
Problem is that I needed to get a vehicle rather quickly after my Mazda Miata was turned into a accordion by a friendly driver in the rear.
Anyway its a slow transition between the 2 different vehicle styles and feel.
I figured that I would try to customize it a little to make it feel more like my own if you know what I mean.
To my actual question: I was surfing eBay and ran across the below auction and was wondering if this actually works or if its a fast bogus gimmick.
Will this increase my performance while cutting my gas usage as it states?
Mitsubishi Eclipse Gas Saver 93 94 95 96 97 98 99 00

Thanks and I have enjoyed reading all your threads that I have found here in the last 24 hours.
Gets me to know the vehicle and style a little better.

Its all bogus. The theory makes sense and its actually real but it doesnt do shit. 2 of my friends have it and one even got bad results, his car couldnt get over 5k RPMS after he puts it in the intake.
Just get a normal intake

:iceslolan Wow that thing looks like my moms cheese grader:iceslolan
There are better aftermarket parts that you can buy for your Eclipse you just gotta do some searching.Oh Btw dont do the MAF hack either, its pointless.

That ebay seller, and the creator of that POS need a nice swift kick in the nuts. Don't get it - it won't do anything. And, welcome to AF!

All it does is tornado the air into the intake which makes it flow a little smoother into the motor. It's an absolute waste of your time and money. A cold air intake will help you more than that thing would.
You should read into upgrade paths for NT DSM's to decide what you should do for some more power...
Oh and welcome to AF.

Not that hard play boy. Go to the Air Intake/Fuel Delivery section of eBay, type "eclipse" and look down. I almost guarantee that 80% of the results turned up will be cheapo intake systems.

I saw pressure regulators, bypass valves...
Also saw this:

Which of these are correct as to what I am looking for?
Thanks

Yep, that would be it. Just remember though, they arent going to do that much for you. Aside from the cool sound, 2 hp, and maybe 1 mpg better milage, they wont do a whole lot for you.

I thought someone said 5 city 7 highway?
If its just 1 then it isn't worth changing.
I am always on the highway about 120 miles a day.
Please advise if its only 1 MPG.
Also some auctions say short pipe and others dont say it, does that change anything?
THANKS

Dude for like $14 bucks you might as well change it,its always good for your engine to breathe better. But mine didnt do much like thor said gives it a little rush sound from under the hood but not much else.~joe

Noooo, I cant ever imagine one of those giving you 5-7 mpg. If they did, dont you think the manufacturers would wise up and put one of those on to boost milage? In theory a cold air intake and better flowing exhaust will make your car get better mileage but realistically they never pay for themselves and you just want to drive the car harder because it will have a bit better pick up and cool sounds. My buddy has noticed a pretty constant 2-3 mpg increase when he drives good since he got his intake, header, test pipe, and exhaust but that all set him back like $900. At that rate, it will take a long ass time to pay off, not to mention the noise tickets you could get.
Best thing you can do to get good gas milage is to keep your foot of the gas and keep it well maintained.

What is the difference between those intake kits that say short pipe verse those that don't?
Thanks

performance wise...short intake pipes will just suck in better and cleaner air other than the stock air box. the longer intake pipe that extends below the stock air box will suck in "colder" air compared to the short intake pipe that is surrounded by the heat in the engine...something like that....

So which is better, short or long?
I am interested mostly to try to improve my MPG verse HP.
My cars performance is acceptable as it is before changing anything.
Thanks

Which one of these would be considered a long one, or would there be a better one out there for the money?
The second one says that it does not require modification.
In an earlier reply someone said that they had to use a dremel.
I would prefer not to modify if possible
Thanks
