It is simple to clean this one. Remove the IAC from the top of the throttle body it is only held on by a couple of bolts. Turn it over and look at the pintle. Spray it with throttle body cleaner, allow it to dry and replace it. Personally, I would also pull the throttle body and clean it as well. There is a small passageway from the IAC to the intake. It can get crudded up too. Once clean, replace and start the car. Based on the code you have you will probably need to replace the entire assembly with a new one.

symptoms =? all i got is the ses light. i can,t really see any obvious persistant problem happening. what do you usually expect when the i.a.c. fouls up ? i did notice some surging when the a/t was searching for a gear once or twice. new part cost about $62. at the discount place.

Usually the IAC only affects idle quality both warm and cold. The light indicates that the motor is moving the pintle too fast to properly control the idle so it probably needs to be replaced. It really shouldn't have anything to do with the transmission.
