well i just installed a new jensen MP6211 in my 87 olds.

i used a wiring harness and everything is hooked up perfectly.
went to hook up the memory wire (yellow wire) and there isn't a matching one on the harness.

i thought about taking it to a shop and letting them deal with it. but i changed my mind. i tried hooking it up to my cigeratte lighter but then i remember my lighter doesnt work so that didnt work out. i dont know what else to hook it up too.

o and i got new speakers but i was just saying that to say it.

find an empty fuse slot that works in your fuse box and then run a wire with a flat connector on the fuse box end to your memory wire, thats what i had to do

so the wire would go from the back of my radio through to the fuses. and i find a connector that will fit into the slot where a fuse would normally go?

will any wire work for this like speaker wire.

i personaly would pick up some 14ga wire 25 feet is the smallest spool i think you can get, its all good it may come in handy later..... while you can use speaker wire depending on who makes it, the insulation can rub off on a ground and fry that wire retarted.... my bright idea for a amp remote wire...

anyhoo the connector the others were talking about is a "Male Spade" connector. you can go to just about any parts store and pick up a pack of 5 or if you can schmooze real good you can even see if they got a single laying around.

just run it from your deck to your fuse block....

87 buick eh??? dont quote me but your fuseblock should have a ton of openings on the top portion of the block.... mine did. as for locating a constant on slot.....

the size of a fuse is two spades so thats the size of a "column" (up and down, i get confused between row and column so if im wrong this is what i mean)
the first column SHOULD be constant as it was with my 89.
if it isnt it may be printed on the block itself. hey... you can even hook your cigarette lighter up again like this.

while it may not be required, an inline fuse holder with a 15A fuse can be just "a little added insurance" for your deck....

also if your looking for a constant on wire that was once hooked up to the factory deck,
it will be on a brown, grey, or black (usually brown) harness with two wires.... i believe its yellow and orange. one is constant [yellow]and the other is illumination[orange] (that is if i can remember this order yet). if your deck can support illumination its a very sleek effect when you turn on your headlights and your deck either dims or gets brighter.

consider picking up another wiring harness for the other harness if your deck can support illumination control as it makes it easyer to upgrade in the future.

Hope this helps!

wow thanks a lot. thats almost exactly what i just finished doing. (went and asked an audio shop their advice)

I LOVE THIS FORUMS.

I'll probably do that for my cigeratte lighter, i dont smoke but i want to be able to charge my phones up.

thanks though.

O and the dimmer only has two setting (high and low) (three if you count off) but it does get brighter when i turn on my headlights.

O and i did put in an inline fuse for assurance. I have a fuse in the back of my deck I'm guessing thats for power surges, etc.

Thanks everyone for your help.
