Shifter problems

When shifting from first to second in my gsr it takes a real tug on the shifter.. almost feels like it doesent want to go in to second at all.. doesnt grind or anything just real hard. what do you think it might be? btw i replaced stock shifter with skunk2 short shifter and it didnt solve the problem
