02 Suburban Fuel Filter

Vehicle 02 Suburban 1500 5.3L flex-fuel w/ fuel injection. Recently I replaced the fuel filter under the driver's door. After that, the Suburban would not start if the tank was under the 7-8 gallon range (tank holds 31 gallons). If the engine was running, it would run fine at or under this range but if the vehicle sat overnight on level ground, the next morning it will not start (fuel gauge reads approx. 1/4). The only way to start it is to add about two gallons or manually move vehicle down a small hill (change of grade). I know it still has 7-8 gallons in the tank because after starting, I would immediately drive to a station and fill up (only 21 gallons would go in). Any ideas? Is there possibly a pressure problem with the fuel injection system?

perhaps you have installed the wrong style filter (which sucks cause i know as well as you how much that filter can be a pain) if you have verified the filter to be correct check out the pressure, you remember when you took it off? you probably went to the parts store picked the filter up came home let it sit for just a little bit, grabbed your tools and got started, anyhoo try to recall the pressure that was contained. the next morning you have some time and dont mind crawling under your burb, just disconnect one of the fuel lines from the filter. this is a poormans way of doing it.... if it looks about the same way as when you had replaced the filter then pressure is not an issue.

when the problem occurs again just turn your key to the on position for 5 seconds, then turn it off for 5 seconds, Repeat this about 4 - 6 times, this will prime the filter, in which case after you have turned the key off the last time and go to start it, it should pop right off. if it does not start still you may have a bad fuel pump as well
