cracked head?

as you can see here a little crack like line running across the head by the timing chain. is this a cracked head, or the start of a crack? as you can see too little fresh oil residue around it.:banghead:

This looks like metal fatigue to me. The head itself is not cracked per se as the mating surfaces are good. I also don't think the oil stain is coming from the cracked area, since there is oil above the area too. I would keep tabs on it and if performance begins to suffer I would look for new head. At this point I wouldn't worry about it.

k just wanted to make sure. just in case i had to look into doing some work. just went out to look at it again and now it looks like the crack like thing got longer. is this good or bad?

Yeah I have those on my motor, too...just hairline cracks in the casted metal. No actual through cracks...
